School Prayer...

When would this voluntary, led by school employees, prayer be held?

And what would the kids who did not volunteer to pray be doing?

And how would you prevent the praying kids from taunting the nonpraying kids for not doing what God wants them to do?

You would not be able to prevent it.

Reagans amendment would allow schools to end all assemblies with a "volentary" prayer to Jesus!

Those who do not want to participate put your heads down on the desk!

no prayer in school, fundamentalist Christians need to shut the fuck up. We know your not talking about voluntary reading of the Koran

How would the Religous Right react if the Amendment passed and the principal of Birmingham Middle stood up in assembly and began to lead a volentary prayer to "Allah the leader of all the world", "Allah Ackbar, Allah Ackbar!"

Fyne, as long az he dusn't than tri two blow tha skool uhp.

I dont know why I am even discussing anything with you... but... it is clear that a person acting as an agent of the government cannot promote the establishment of religen...

An employee of a school cannot promote prayer....

Much like if Wall Mart hires you, you give up some of your freedom of speech while at work, because they do not allow you to scream for no reason in the store! The WallMart employee gives up his freedom to cary arms as they do not allow that in the store.

You are not so dumb as to not be able to understand this!

Try to comprehend the two nouns in use for this debate:

vol⋅un⋅teer
–noun
1. a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking.
2. a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.

es⋅tab⋅lish⋅ment
–noun
1. the act or an instance of establishing.
2. the state or fact of being established

Can you comprehend where one does not apply if the other does? That it is inherently impossible to 'establish' something that is 'voluntary' or visa versa.

The 1st Amendment doesn't declare that Government is Atheist, and that is essentially what you believe it means. The 1st guarantees EVERY American the right to religious exercise, it makes no stipulation this is somehow forbidden in the confines of the very buildings of the government that guarantees that freedom, and that very notion is absurd! Yet, that is again what you believe the Constitution says.

Freedom OF Religion.... Not FROM Religion!

Dixie, you didn't answer my questions.

And how about a voluntary wiccan circle or buddhist meditation?

I recall a parent group raising hell in Tuscaloosa several years ago because a teacher was using "visualization techniques" that were claimed to have been too close to meditation for the fundamentalists to be comfortable with.

If the Christian Fundementalist RADICALs are allowed voluntary praying it violates civil rights unless you have all religious participate. Dixtard and the false outrage skinheads (good band name) would have a baby if you had the Koran read say for the first month. LOL

Promote:

1. a.To raise to a more important or responsible job or rank.
b.To advance (a student) to the next higher grade.

2.To contribute to the progress or growth of; further. See synonyms at advance.

3.To urge the adoption of; advocate: promote a constitutional amendment.

4.To attempt to sell or popularize by advertising or publicity: commercials promoting a new product.

5.To help establish or organize (a new enterprise), as by securing financial backing: promote a Broadway show.

An agent of the Government is not allowed to do the above when it relates to religen....

Leading volentary school prayers fits this catagory!

Well, needless to say, we have come a long way since Reagan.

Social Conservatives are not as conservative as they once were, and in 10 years they wont be as conservative as they are now...

The world moves from darkness to light....!

I do not believe our schools should be a platform/podium/pulpit for ANY specific religious faith or belief. I also do not think our schools should be scoured of anything pertaining to religious belief. I think there is a happy medium with regard to what is acceptable, and what is unacceptable, and I believe individual communities should have the FREEDOM and right to decide this for themselves.

So are you saying individual communities shoul be allowed to decide what religen is going to be allowed to promote volentary prayer and what religen is not?

Since that isn't non-denominational such an amendment wouldn't cover that. I think you have "any denomination" with "non-denominational"...

To "Promote" is NOT to "Establish!" (....see the definition above!)
