Russian hackers penetrate U.S. electricity grid...

Massive arms sales from the U.S. for sure. I agree with you here. The right kind of cyber attack on our infrastructure could be almost as devastating to this country as a nuclear attack (minus the radiation sickness and big hole at ground zero). We are too connected financially, infrastructure wise and to things people do not think much about like hospitals, emergency services, etc. There really is nothing much today that could not be brought down or interrupted by a real cyber attack. For all the electronics on my vessels, I still damn sure know how to navigate the old way for a reason.

the only way to prevent a cyber attack is to use 'tempest' requirements for your computing facilities / systems

a way that is almost as good is not to tie your computer system to a phone line

alternately, if you must have a phone line, use a system where a user calls in and they input their id and hangup and the system calls them back at a known phone number

of course nothing but very tight physical security will prevent someone downloading data to a storage media and walking out the door with it...

if someone prints news that you do not like then it is 'fake' news...right?

occasionally wa po prints news that i do not like, but i do not turn up my nose and call it 'fake'

some news organizations are biased in what they print or give it 'slant' to the right or the left that i do not like, but if they have a reputation for honest checked out (at least two sources) news then i discount the 'slant' but read/listen anyway

i give more credence to unbiased news reporting though.

\/\/\/ Hey dumb shit, here is an example of some 'fake news' \/\/\/

"Russian operation hacked a Vermont utility, showing risk to U.S. electrical grid security, officials say"

Here is how a person with a brain can tell the news was fake:

"Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Russian hackers had penetrated the U.S. electric grid. Authorities say there is no indication of that so far. The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid. "

https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...c2a61b0436f_story.html?utm_term=.6c71f5b7f6b4

If someone like you without much brain function can't tell what news is fake jus' ask someone with a clue.

The level of stupidity one finds is shocking... burp...

just an fyi - use profanity in a post to me again and you go on my ignore list

as for 'fake' news, first i consider the source, i like a source that double checks a news item before putting it out with their name on it

then i run it through my own filter

By all means, put me on ignore. burp...

Hopefully you understand that most posters on political message boards aren't sensitive to the needs of extra sensitive posters like you.

I can't promise you that what I post won't hwurt yer widdle ears or yer widdle eyeballs...

Well aren't you special?

You like sources that 'double check' yer sayin'?

And even after that ya have yer own special 'filter'? LOL

I don't think I've encountered such a 'special' poster who is as foolish as you before...

carry on...

Is it OK if a say poop?

There's something amiss with Obama. He colluded with the Palestinians, he's determined to sound a dubious alarm about the Russians...

Cyber warfare has been going on for 20 years... All of the sudden Russia is getting g careless and leaving their fingerprints all over their cyber espionage?

It's a right handy way to take the focus off of his failure.

The Washington Post failed to contact the utility company that reported malware in one laptop ahead of publishing its report that a U.S. electric grid in Vermont was breached by Russian hackers, The Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald reports, putting the story at odds with what originally happened.

Mike Kanarick, spokesman for Burlington Electric Department, said in a statement to the Burlington Free Press: "We acted quickly to scan all computers in our system for the malware signature. We detected the malware in a single Burlington Electric Department laptop not connected to our organization’s grid systems. We took immediate action to isolate the laptop and alerted federal officials of this finding."

The Post article said the hacking showed holes in the U.S. electrical grid security and included harsh statements from Vermont lawmakers, including governor Peter Shumlin.

"Vermonters and all Americans should be both alarmed and outraged that one of the world's leading thugs, Vladimir Putin, has been attempting to hack our electric grid, which we rely upon to support our quality of life, economy, health, and safety,"
he told The Post.

The Post on Saturday added an editor's note to reflect the mistake.

"An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Russian hackers had penetrated the U.S. electric grid. Authorities say there is no indication of that so far. The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid.

That whole thing was kind of a mess, wasn't it?
I noticed that difference right away yesterday before all the hub-bub...
Headline said "Russian operation hacked a Vermont utility"
But the story said "Russians did not actively use the code to disrupt operations" and.......
"laptop that was not connected to the organization’s grid systems."

This matter proves how badly broken the state run media is.

Most Cornservatives have known for many years that the so called 'main stream media', (state run media), works very closely with the dim wit Democrat party to generate 'fake news' that helps dim wit Democrats and hurts Republicans.

This fact is now proven beyond all doubt with the release of dim wit Democrat emails the state run media didn't want disclosed.

The badly broken state run media has settled on the most promising narrative as the best excuse for why the Dumpster is soon to be POTUS: the Russians, (Vlad Putin hisef), hacked the Presidential election and teamed up with the Dumpster to help him beat the wonderful Queen said media loves so very much.

The current story was reported by the bulk of the state run media, as further evidence of those evil Russians now hacking our power grid in addition to helping the Dumpster as an illegitimate winner of the 11/8/2016 election.

That was the very clear false narrative the purveyors of 'fake news' reported.

Turns out the whole story was false.

The utility had found a laptop with suspicious file on it, no electric grid was hacked.

Did it ever trouble this same media that the crooked Secty of State Queen and BJ got major $ fer arrangin' the sale of 20% of America's uranium to Russia? Nope.

The state run media needs to go away as does the corrupt dim wit Democrat party, (the party of slavery, kkk, jim crow, felony, treason, and TARD).

Do you intend to ignore yourself, for lying, or are you just going to IMPOSE yourself on us?

Ya' gotta love Trump's solution. Never use computers. Write it out longhand and send it by courier.

Still in the days of the Pony Express. What a fucking incompetent boob.

Actually that does make it serious. If you can't get in via the Internet you have to go physical, that means thumb drives and infecting machines that may at some point connect to the network.
I would imagine that their intranet would be firewalled off from the internet and access only allowed from designated devices. The laptop in question undoubtedly had internet but no intranet access.
