Russian hackers penetrate U.S. electricity grid...

There is a tremendous difference between "elevating" Russia over the U.S., and what is actually occurring here. We have an outgoing President, whom, without actual proof, is taking political actions against another sovereign nation. Third world countries with despots do things like that. If anyone's Patriotism should be questioned here is should start right at the top.

the proof is to be published next week or can you not wait? also, how proof do you want? enough to compromise our security?

There's something amiss with Obama. He colluded with the Palestinians, he's determined to sound a dubious alarm about the Russians...

Cyber warfare has been going on for 20 years... All of the sudden Russia is getting g careless and leaving their fingerprints all over their cyber espionage?
well there is certainly something going on -we have to believe the intelligence agencies.
"Putin hacked the election" is what's driving the frenzy. I'm not sure of that conclusion by them though
other then the Kremlin doing what it normally does.
Or it could be copycats malware to make it appear that way. Or it could just be normal Russian NGOs probing around

Heard this on NPR. It was found on the laptop of an employee, but it wasn't tied into the computer grid of the power company.

This just shows the complete inefficiency of our government and tax dollars. You would think "hacking" is something they have never heard of. The threat of cyber attacks has been brought up for decades now. They are certainly nothing new. Like everything with government, even though the problem is staring them in the face, they will not do shit about it until is causes damage and destruction.
Because the big money is in weapons. I've been saying it for almost a decade...we don't need more soldiers. We need more geeks.

Massive arms sales from the U.S. for sure. I agree with you here. The right kind of cyber attack on our infrastructure could be almost as devastating to this country as a nuclear attack (minus the radiation sickness and big hole at ground zero). We are too connected financially, infrastructure wise and to things people do not think much about like hospitals, emergency services, etc. There really is nothing much today that could not be brought down or interrupted by a real cyber attack. For all the electronics on my vessels, I still damn sure know how to navigate the old way for a reason.

More fake news from WaPo. Act surprised.

if someone prints news that you do not like then it is 'fake' news...right?

occasionally wa po prints news that i do not like, but i do not turn up my nose and call it 'fake'

some news organizations are biased in what they print or give it 'slant' to the right or the left that i do not like, but if they have a reputation for honest checked out (at least two sources) news then i discount the 'slant' but read/listen anyway

i give more credence to unbiased news reporting though.
