Religious affiliation of American scientists

I was hired twice for adjunct college teacher positions at Sonoma State University, and a community college near Sacramento, and neither time was I ever asked what my religious beliefs were. Nor did anyone ever show the slightest interest in them.

The Oxford University mathematician John Lennox says he was told as a young man that his Christian faith could be detrimental to his research career, but that was back in the 1960s before there were civil rights laws protecting freedom of conscience.
they know you're a luciferian misinterpreter of jesus's intent.

I look at the data and see that 40% have religion.
No, that's wrong. 48 percent identify with a specific religious denomination, and at least a few percent in that "nothing in particular" category probably feel there is some kind of higher power, even if they don't affiliate with a specific denomination

You have to be good at arithmetic, and have the mind and intuition to be able to see lots of information in the data.
What do you see?
48 percent identify with a specific religious denomination.

A few percent probably believe in a higher power, without identifying with a specific religious denomination.

Atheists are about twice as high in science as in the general population. Probably because the belief in physical materialism is an article of faith prevalent in science.

Jews are overepresented in science compared to the general population, presumably because of the Jewish tradition and emphasis on education.

The fact that at least half of scientists believe in some type of God or higher power means that science isn't atheistic by nature, and that some people believe science actually enhances their religious belief.

^^ That's just for a start.

Wow, that's flawed logic. (Given the source I know I shouldn't be surprised)

Science, by definition, is atheistic. It does not allow the invocation of unverifiable, non-objective factors.

PEOPLE may be religious, but science is atheistic.

YES, I see 48% now. Was between patients and in a hurry.

Some people can look at data and independently come up with their own insights.

Others just stare at data with a blank stare, like a cow chewing cud, lol
Sheeple chewing cud is a more apt description, IMHO. :)

MAGAts aren't very bright and are often emotional hot messes as JPP proves daily.

"Trump Republican" is vying for a spot on that list.

Incorrect.

The scientific method is strictly empirical and inductive.

Science is a profession composed of people who use the scientific method but also have the free will hold philosophical beliefs and infer philosophical conclusions from the discoveries of science.

Shouldn't a 12-year-old Geochem PhD know that?

Scientists are human beings, not robots or test tubes.

You can read, can't you? I said the people can be religious but science is atheistic.

Johannes Kepler, Copernicus, Galileo, Isaac Newton, James Clerk Maxwell , Gregor Mendel, Francis Collins all thought design in nature and scientific law are mirrors of God.

I couldn't care less. If Newton had suggested that F=Gmm/r^2 included the "GOd factor" then it would be worthless.

You should really understand science better. Too bad you never had any classes.

Wait until you have a science class. You'll be surprised that "God did it" is not considered a legitimate hypothesis.

Even though it seems to be your fave. Which is strange for an 'agnostic'.
