Everything about the human species, from our nutritive requirements, our digestive system, our metabolism, even the shape of our teeth, shows homo sapiens to be omnivorous descendants of carnivorous ancestors. It is very difficult for the human digestive system to extract certain minerals in adequate quantities from plant sources. But those same minerals are easily absorbed from the ingestion of animal flesh. Our bodies require a narrowly defined ratio of amino acids for building proteins. It is very difficult to attain that ratio through plant sources without going over in caloric intake. It is very easy to find the right amino acid ratios in animal flesh.
There is no more immorality for humans to eat the flesh of animals than it is for lions, tigers, bears, crocodiles, dolphins, etc. to eat the flesh of animals. Whether you believe we were created by a superior being, or we are the result of a few quintillion chemical reactions over several billion years, the fact is humans are omnivorous by the construct of our bodies.
If you do not like meat, do not eat meat. That is your choice to make. But your choice in no more moral than my choice to eat the flesh of animals.
BTW: much of the research from past decades indicating meat consumption to be linked to cancer has been proven false.
And a last note: I personally find cleaning a pumpkin to be as messy (and slightly gross) as cleaning an animal.
