Sarah Iannarone — who, like all other candidates in the race, is unaffiliated with a political party — can be seen in the photo, shared earlier this week by independent journalist Andy Ngo, wearing a skirt covered in the faces of Che Guevara, Mao Zedong and Joseph Stalin.

Iannarone is beating incumbent Mayor Ted Wheeler in the race, which uses a nonpartisan voting system in local elections, by upward of 11 points, according to the latest survey from local newspaper Willamette Week, published Monday.

Western European countries vote themselves into and out of socialism all the time. For the most part, even their non-socialist parties are somewhat socialist.

There is an old joke where Thatcher explained British politics to Reagan, "we have three main parties, Labour, or as you would call them socialists, Liberals, or as you would call them socialists, and Conservatives, or as you would call them socialists." Even Thatcher at her most conservative refused to privatize healthcare in the UK.

In the EU, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden are led by parties that are some variety of moderate socialists. Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, and Slovenia have coalitions which socialists are junior members of the coalition. Macron (France's leader) was a Socialist, but joined March. March is not completely socialist, but takes from socialism.

Socialism does not have a bad name outside of the USA.
