OUR PRISONS ARE OVERCROWDED!

Oh it's a crock of bullshit. Whenever things go wrong in this nation or hard times are upon us you can make even money that some asshole demagogue politician is gonna make hay by demonizing immigrants, both legal and illegal.

If you fall for that shit congratulations you're one of the vast number of proles being manipulated by politicians who think you're dumber than shit.

don't waste my time with your stupid arguments based on your own lies.....get back to me when you learn honesty.......

Easy solution, pardon the drug users and non violent dealers, prisons will be a lot less full.

nice try at sarcasm Wacko. Maybe if you were better at science you'd understand there is a whole lot of truth to that comment.

As long as people continue to believe that chemical substance addiction is a crime to be punished as opposed to the well documented scientific fact that it is a disease that requires treatment we will continue with this vicious, inhumane and extraordinarily expensive vicious cycle and utter waste that is the war on drugs.

The scientific fact, whether you accept it or not, is our scientifically educated health care professionals are vastly more qualified to manage this problem than lawyers, cops, judges, politicians or our criminal justice system. Yet people in power continue to deny this scientific fact for fear they will be accused of being weak on crime and thus the cycle of stupidity continues.

I hate to say it, but even Desh can be right on occasion, prisons for profit is simply wrong. The idea that we pay more the longer they keep them, etc. just makes for bad policy and often directly violates the rights of the prisoners. This isn't even remotely partisan either, both parties participate in this fiasco.

I've watched model prisoners suddenly "getting in trouble" just before their parole hearings and ending up in solitary... suddenly they aren't model prisoners any longer and lose the opportunity for release and the prison makes more money. And that is just one example...

It is sickening that the "land of the free" imprisons more people than any other nation in the western world. Truly, we aren't free.

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.”

Lunatic Desh has NEVER been right about ANYTHING. You should hate saying something this silly.

Private prisons have been shown to be more cost effective than the massive bureaucratically burdened government versions. Do you have some kind of evidence or proof to the contrary?

Leftists always think that profiting for anything other than political corruption is bad.

I've never given much weight to hearsay anecdotal evidence; but the left is quite full of them.

It is sickening that the "land of the free" imprisons more people than any other nation in the western world. Truly, we aren't free.

Yep; in many other nations the populations are more homogenous and/or they simply cut body parts and murder theirs.

But what is truly sickening are Americans who bury their heads in the sand ignoring the REALITY that liberal policies are what created single parent households, drug use, pimping, immorality and government welfare that tend to be the primary causes of massive incarceration and mayhem that exists in liberal controlled urban sewers.

Add to that the asinine false narrative that police are the problem, black lives matter and this moronic belief that one should be able to choose one's gender over one's biology and you have a cesspool of "deplorable's" the liberal left and FAKE media celebrate and love giving a megaphone to.

I find the idea of imprisoning people for profit to be morally repulsive, contrary to the stated goal of freedom, and understand the fact that CA paying for profit prisons makes it very clear that this isn't a liberal v. conservative issue. I am no liberal, TD. Very much not.

This is too one-sided. Don't you think there are more to blame than just the System?

The current system is a joke. Who in the hell wants an inmate to just sit around and waste tax dollars? There's so much more that could be done with him.

My "for profit" idea would be anything but immoral.

There is a difference between a company profiting off inmates, and the state benefiting from convict labour.

Once you realize that incentivizing the imprisonment of people in the "land of the free" is morally wrong, there really is nothing left to argue.

I haven't blamed the system, I simply and directly (as conservatives often do) look at the result over the emotive arguments. It is always fun to go emotional and talk about how everybody in prison "deserves" it, but the reality is, only liberals ignore human nature to a level where they become purposefully ignorant of reality and the direct result of the monetary incentive provided (welfare queen example). Giving people monetary incentive to continue incarceration leads down a bad path.
