"With a new Congress set to take office, the most recent projections have the U.S. budget deficit reaching nearly $1 trillion in 2019, or more than double the level of 2015."

"Today there really is reason to be concerned about the budget deficit.

"For the first time in history, America is seeing its budget deficit rise dramatically higher during a period of peace and prosperity. While there have been even bigger deficits on occasion — measured as a share of GDP — they were always associated with a temporary situation such as war or high unemployment."

"All government spending must be paid for by taxpayers, either today or in the future. The burden will fall on future generations that inherit a smaller capital stock and are faced with paying higher tax rates.

Now how exactly Trump's deficit spending and tax stimulus to the rich contributing to this debt "make America great?"

People like you really make me sick, they are so terminally stupid. Socialists never care about deficits, they consider their economic theories are not subject the normal rules.
Sure, you're a Socialist. American's aren't. At least Socialists are honest about their position re. deficits.

'Conservatives' are liars.

Obama had deficits during a recession to prime the pump and boost the economy. There is no excuse to not only fail to pay down the deficit, but actually increase it, once obama's work paid off and Trump was handed obama's booming economy.

Especially whining so much about deficits while it was necessary to have them, then issuing loans with abandon while unnecessary is totally hypocritical. The democrats policies were internally consistent and obeyed economic law, the Republicans seem to have no desire but to run deficits madly while in power and then demand austerity when their not, with no motivation besides making themselves look good, stimulating an already heated economy in contradiction to all sensible economic advice.

The democrats are consistent and obey a sound economic policy, run deficits during recession, pay them off during boom. The republicans have absolutely no excuse for their behavior, literally while the house was on fire that were demanding we stop using water to save a few cents. Now that their in power and there is no emergency in sight due to their predecessors deft handling, they just fill up the pool, drown their yard and keep a fire hydrant constantly blasting in case they feel a need to cool down. Total hypocrisy.

All they want to do is drain the aquifer as soon as possible so that their opponents have an even bigger mess to clean up next time !

What economic rule are you obeying by pumping debt money into a heated economy? None. No economist agrees with this policy. The only people who agree with it are rightists, who have no desire besides power and self enrichment.

Our socialists subsidize the Wall Street/donor/"job creator" class exclusively and you're right, they don't care about deficits or anything else.

LOL @ 1.6% GDP growth being a booming economy.

The economy essentially peaked when Trump got into office, but let's pretend like the GOP did that. You were handed what you have.

If your advice were honestly followed, we would be like Haiti, a privatized neoliberal dumpster fire.

Trump is so good he can go back in time and fix the economy before he was even president! What amazing skills !

It would be better to acknowledge the gifts you have been given, but rightists are notoriously bad at that aren't they? I'm sure when a rightist wins the lottery they pat themselves on the back for all that hard work.

You're deflecting WM. We had 1.6% GDP growth in 2016. That's not booming

The economy isn't rebooted every time a new President takes office. Trump inherited an advancing economy, just as Obama was left with a declining economy, both facts.

Americans know that, they don't see the economy today as happening cause of Trump, but in spite of him

How is going from 2.9% to 1.6% GDP an advancing or booming economy? I said nothing about individuals or Presidents. You did. 1.6% GDP growth is not a booming economy.
