Obamacare Lite is out!

The Republicans released their plan to amend Obamacare, I've been reviewing it.

Its not as good as Obamacare Classic, but not terrible. Its clearly a lot better than what we had pre-Obamacare.

Its got the expected tax giveaways to the Rich and all but the bones of Obamacare are still intact. Lets see what gets passed.

One thing that really fascinates me about politics is just how different people can be on certain topics. While I agree with you about the Obamacare Lite label I actually stand with Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz about how there needs to be a full repeal before any possible replacement plan should take place. From what I've read and heard there's not much of a difference between what Trump is wanting to change and what existed. My hope is that actual conservatives in congress vote down this edited version and the pressure mounts on Trump to fully repeal obamacare. I know that Trump ran on a repeal and replace campaign promise and so I'm not so naive to believe that he would be conservative on this, but I hope that he doesn't just tweak Obamacare and call that "repeal and replace".

Interesting to me that the part about "erasing state lines" is not in there.

That was a BIG Rump promise.

Not as good? Anything is better than Obamacare as it was you buffoon.

This is what happens when you try to do something moderate, or meet in the middle. The left still mocks you and calls you a moron for trying. They can't be bargained or compromised with.

I also think that if you consider yourself a conservative or even a republican then you can't really support Obamacare lite. You either believe that the federal government should be involved in healthcare or you don't. Just because Trump creates it does not make it ok in my opinion. The Republican Party has control of all branches of government and voted to repeal Obamacare when Obama was still president. There's really no excuse for that same repeal vote to not be embraced now that it can actually pass. The problem is that there are people in congress that call themselves small government constitutional conservatives in public but behind closed doors are anything but.

Trump also ran on everyone gets healthcare.

There's no chance it gets repealed then we wait several months and figure out what to do next. It just doesn't work that way politically.

No I agree. Trump ran on universal healthcare but just didn't use the term. It's why I was always so surprised at so called conservatives embracing his healthcare stance. They should have had their doubts when he always said "replace" and when he mentions how every American will be covered. But since he said it his supporters on the right embraced it. Paul, Lee, and Cruz are some of the few actually sticking with their principles and not just playing party politics and looking for ways to continue subsidizing things and creating new forms of taxes.

This is actually worse than Obamacare. It puts a stamp of approval on some of the worst aspects of Obamacare

1) taking money from others to pay for someone elses healthcare
2) the pre-existing conditions clause. It is a bullshit clause and leads to adverse selection
3) the whole notion of keeping kids on a parents insurance until 26. What a sad commentary on our society that 26 year olds can't be considered out on their own. Pathetic

Anything short of complete repeal will be an abdication of the GOP mandate

Points for consistency, but Rump did say when running he would provide quality healthcare for everyone and that the Fed would pay for some of it.

It will be interesting to see the Republican Congress fall in line out of devotion to the Man not the principal.

Oh I know. It's one of the many reasons I didn't vote for him. He is a populist, not a constitutional conservative or even a small government republican in my opinion.

Thats not what Rump ran on. Rump got elected promoting universal healthcare.

I'm hoping more people join with Rand Paul and others, but yes I am sure there will be many republicans in congress that will embrace it just because it came from Trump despite their principles.

I hate it and do not support it, it is just more wasteful spending on something that won't work. It is an Edsel

Once people get a gov't program in place, especially one of this size, it is almost impossible to remove it. People may say repeal Obamacare but if they lose coverage how many will say 'that's cool'?

The Republicans never should have been so far out of power that this monstrosity was able to pass. Republicans in Congress know they can't repeal this thing yet they keep saying it to voters creating unreasonable expectations.

Rump promised government healthcare, just run better than when Obama ran it.

Thousands of businesses and citizens were harmed by Obamacare's implementation and there would also be people harmed by it going away, but doing the right thing now, which is repealing obamamacre and shrinking the size of government and its power, will ensure that we have a better future in my opinion. It's like when you hurt yourself. You can either live with the pain and get used to it or you can go through an uncomfortable surgery so that you can be healthy again and healthier in the long run. Repealing it, letting insurance companies compete across state lines, and getting rid of entitlements and subsidies is better for our country's long term health in my personal opinion.

I still find it incredibly funny and ironic that millions of Americans have no trust in their federal government and are so quick to give them unfavorable ratings but yet seem adamant about that same government running their healthcare, their education, telling them what the can buy, what they can and can't do, and other things.

There's a political reality and Republicans would get run out of office if that happened.

What they can and cant do? You mean like who they can marry? What women can do with their bodies? What drugs they can and cant take? What pictures they can look at on the internet? Those kind of things, because it seems like that is Republicans...
