Let's just put this on the table. We've been in Afghanistan for 20 years and there has been plenty of bi-partisan failure throughout the past two decades. So people need to stop with this idea that 'their side' has no blame here.
And I do not understand the position of people who say all that matters is we leave and how we do so is basically irrelevant. History is replete with actions taken for short-term gains that had long-term negative consequences. Again, this isn't saying we needed to stay in Afghanistan forever. Rather how we leave is important.
We'll see how this plays out going forward.
