Nikki Haley Announces Presidential Bid

White Europeans changed their name when they came to America. It's nothing new, nor is it something exclusive to non-white people. Why does it bother anyone if they so desire to do so?

The only one I know who was bothered was my Indian friend, who saw it as a repudiation of their ancestry. OTOH I find it repulsive when someone tries to pretend to be some other race in order to get political points. I like people who are proud of their heritage. Except of course for Nazis. Fuck them. :rofl2:

They might alter it, or just pick something completely new. Like Nikki (Nimrata), or Bobby (real name Piyush Jindal).

Nikki is actually her real middle name, and she ditched her given first name in favor of it, in addition to ditching her family's religious heritage when she became an adult.

Nikki Haley's full legal name given to her at birth is "Nimarata Nikki Randhawa." Nikki is Punjabi it isn't a nick name for Nichole

Your ignorance is astounding

How interesting. I just got reading the same Wikipedia article. I guess since we both read it, either we are both ignorant or we're both enlightened. lol

My father came here in the 1940s and didn't change a syllable of his name.

I can't blame kids for wanting to fit in.

But, Piyush and Nimrata are supposedly self confident adults, and their families didn't come here in the 1920s when prejudice and crushing discrimination were openly practiced against immigrants.

OTOH they appear to have settled in the South where prejudice against darker skinned ppl is still alive and well, esp. if they are "foreigners."

This is going to be her chance to audition for the VP role. She was Governor of South Carolina and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. so she has the chops. We'll see how she does.

She is clearly more capable than Sarah Palin...

Last time we had Trump in the primaries running for President we had so many good republicans running as well that it spread out the "rest of them" vote and Trump won with solely his 30% base voting for him. I just hope that doesn't happen again. Like last time, Trump is the last person I want on the top of that ticket, I don't want him to be the nominee and I see so many better options (Haley is just one of them, DeSantis another)... unfortunately so many better options want to run that I fear it will dilute the 70% vote again and we will wind up with what amounts to be the very last person that 70% of republicans want to see at the top of the republican ticket in 2024.

I didn't know that till now, thanks.

Some ppl will do anything to access political power. I don't have a favorable opinion of her partly because of that but mostly due to her defense of #TRE45ON, and other political stances. But if she wins the nomination, I think she might be a difficult candidate to beat.

Lol, I think it’s cute that she thinks she can win the popular vote.

While the Rs lost Senate seats in the mid term elections, more folks voted for republicans than for democrats across the nation (the very definition of the non-existent "popular vote")...

Yeah, it is entirely possible that solid R candidates can absolutely get the "popular vote".

Reasons he won: Energetic, sometimes-violent rallies that always had lots of media attention -- even the so-called liberal media. His penchant for saying horrible and false-- but colorful -- things about the other candidates. His base ate it up and grew because of that. He also ran on a blatant us vs them vibe that the base loved. (D)s ran a horrible candidate and not the one younger ppl and many of us elders wanted (Bernie).

Guano, she is not white dumbfuck. You assholes ought to be praising her DIVERSITY and INCLUSION.

They won't want to, though they still think that Elizabeth Warren is Native American, recognizing diversity in the republican party makes their IQs expand and that hurts, so they don't do it.

I'm honestly baffled. Nikki is the middle name on her birth certificate and what her mother called her since she was a child. How can you alter your government name when you go by it?

My brother-in-law is black and goes by his middle name. (His first name is very 'white' sounding). Does that mean he hates himself as has been proclaimed ITT? Is there an unwritten rule minorities can't go by their middle name, even if it is what they have been called since birth?

Any person of color…whatever color…or female that approaches the conservative side at all gets marginalized if not outright vilified by the left. Every.single.one.

They like to pretend that nobody goes by their middle names. Though there isn't a single male in my family that goes by their first name. (I don't either, mine is just a single letter, it fits uncomfortably...). Because they believe that everybody must go by their first name they don't even read the middle name on the birth certificate (unless it is a democrat or a serial killer). They also want to insult, so they just act like a story like Haley's can't exist in this country unless they have a D next to their name.

Like I said before. Recognizing Diversity in the Republican Party would raise their IQ, that causes them pain, they do not like pain, so they refuse such recognition.

They wanted their D candidate to win because of genitalia, but when the same genitalia appears on the other side of the ticket it's not good enough to even be recognized for what it is. They come up with nonsense like she listed herself as white on some form, or that even though she goes by her middle name she "made that name up".

Not like I'm some political expert but I'll offer a couple thoughts. I don't think Haley is going to last long as a candidate. She just doesn't have enough of a base and won't be able to fund raise as a result. The desire to rid the party of Trump is strong and I think people will be more willing this time to drop out if that's what it takes.

Adults are supposed to be confident. I met many Hindus and Muslims from south Asia and the middle east in Houston with their original ethnic Asian names.

Barack Obama adopted the name Barry in high school, presumably to fit in, but when he gained his adult confidence he went back to his African name.

We had a Native American Senator here in Colorado. He ran as a Democrat, then moved over to the R party (first ever D I voted for, actually). They celebrated his Native status as a D, but once he became an R he was "evil" and was sometimes called "racist" by the same folks that used to celebrate him.

Ben Nighthorse Campbell. He was awesome.

Well said. At the end of the day it's all about political power. The narrative they want to sell is that Democrats are friendly to minorities and Republicans aren't. So having more minorities on the Republican side is seen as a threat which is why they have to be attacked.

Man, I sure hope so.

So does the left towards every white person who jumps on the MAGA bandwagon.
