Nikki Haley Announces Presidential Bid

Trump isn't going to be the nominee but Tim Scott would likely move the needle very little, if at all, with the black vote. It's about the college educated suburban white women vote if we're really breaking it down. That's where Trump lost and who DeSantis will have to win back.

Totally disagree, I do think Trump will be the nominee. When it comes down to it, it is the GOP base who votes in primaries, and nobody owns the GOP base as Trump does, they love his shtick, and these are the same people who deny Trump lost or that he had anything to do with1/6. In addition, he is ratings, and Murdoch may say one thing, but to him it is all about the dollar

DeSantis has never been on the national stage, nor been the direct attack of Trump’s personal attacks, whole different ballgame than photo ops and press conferences in Tallahassee.

Scott would help either candidate, wouldn’t dramatically change the black vote but may curb some of the sting both candidates have with Black Americans and thusly enthusiasm/turnout. But you are correct, a more moderate women would help with the suburban women

Interesting development could be if both Trump and DeSantis get into a dirt full slug out, which both are capable of, and a third candidate sneaks thru with the voters disgust

For me, she is untenable because she supported the shit stain Trump and failed to call him out when it really mattered.

It’s not about you (as if you’d ever vote for a Republican anyway). I’ll offer an example from this board. Darth Omar started a thread saying See Democrats, I told you you should have voted for Tulsi Gabbard (instead of Biden). How many Democrats thought to themselves, gee maybe he was right?

That’s a single example but a difficult concept to understand.

Nikki Haley and the manipulation of the model minority myth

Born Nimrata Randhawa to Indian immigrants from Punjab, Haley goes by her childhood nickname, Nikki. Though she grew up in a Sikh household, she has publicly emphasized her conversion to Christianity. She was also accused of listing her race as "white" on a 2001 voter registration card.

Haley's on-and-off relationship with her Indian American heritage is what sociologists call strategic identity deployment. "It's the idea that there are ways of presenting your identity strategically to connect with and gain favor among particular audiences," said Hajar Yazdiha, an assistant professor of sociology at University of Southern California. "Among high status, powerful elites, tapping in and out of an identity is really a political strategy."

Bobby, aka Piyush Jindal ditched his given first name and ditched his family religion also.

There historically has been a lot of social pressure on immigrant kids with seemingly weird names and cultural heritages to conform to Anglo-Saxon expectations.

I understand what you said, and I agree. That is why I wrote, "for me...".

I think its sick what Republicans will support, and am not talking about policy or agenda... I am talking about a disdain for Democracy and America.

Or the GOP could just end up not fielding a nominee because the party can't agree on one in the primary, and both of those idiots run as independents.

I have no real desire to get into a Trump-DeSantis debate but I'll offer these thoughts. The Rivals Recruiting Mainboard talks a lot of politics and it's heavily white, male and largely Southern. It's the core of Trump's base. And most people on that board are backing DeSantis. Trump will still have supporters but his time has passed.

Trump has already gone after DeSantis and DeSantis knocked it out of the park with his responses. He doesn't mention Trump directly but points out what he's (DeSantis) done and his margin of victory in Florida. This has happen on a couple of occasions and DeSantis' response was perfect. He showed he has the ability to handle the coming insults from Trump.

Look, I get it, you're a Democrat and I'd want Trump to win the Republican nomination if I were a Democrat.

And I believe you are correct about the black vote. Democrats are always going to win a large percentage of the black vote, but Trump drove the black vote to a very high level. It's quite possible a DeSantis/Scott ticket reduces some of that turnout (talking about those who don't often vote but disliked Trump enough to turn out).

I admit I am biased but Ive heard others say it... Santis does not have a lot of charisma. He does not give a good speech and he is a terrible debater.

That won’t happen, Trump might threaten an independent run, but he wouldn’t do it, it would damage the Trump brand, and officially leave him as a three time loser, both something he would be concerned with regarding his legacy

Ultimately, I do think you're right...I do think Trump will get the GOP nomination.

But I think the general election loss won't be close...most voters in the US are sick of his stupid face.

The more people who run, the more likely Trump’s nomination.

He passed away a few years ago, gods rest his soul, but my friend Hari from India absolutely loathed Indian immigrants who were given lovely names at birth only to Americanize them. Like Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley, in particular. He had a special disgust for Jindal, whose official governor portrait makes him look like a White guy. Anything to fit in with Southern prejudices, I guess.

Nikki Haley's full legal name given to her at birth is "Nimarata Nikki Randhawa." Nikki is Punjabi it isn't a nick name for Nichole

While it's a common nickname for women named "Nichole" in the United States, "Nikki" is also a common Punjabi name, the region in India her parents migrated from.

In a tweet responding to implications she white-washed her name from activist Bree Newsome, Haley said "Nikki" means "little one" in Punjabi.

"Nikki" is often used "as a term of endearment for the youngest girl in a Sikh family," according to British-Indian writer Tunku Varadarajan, who wrote an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal in 2020 about Haley's name controversy. Haley is the youngest girl in her family.

Your ignorance is astounding

Oh one of lower IQ, she claimed it in 2001

Do you have DOCUMENTED proof that she did that? Or do you just have accusations?

We’ll take another swing at it, and it sounds pretty much that you are on the DeSantis bandwagon, and exchanging from that perspective

If we learned anything it is that polls and such as message boards don’t often reflect reality, and DeSantis has traded barbs with Trump, but not the full barrage Trump is capable of, especially if his back is against the wall. DeSantis is a smart guy, smart politician, says the right things, employs the right scapegoats, but if it comes down to Trump or Trump II, I don’t see the hard core base who show up in primaries abandoning Trump

Lastly, I am a Democrat, and I’d prefer Trump run, especially if Biden runs, but I have no real concern over whoever the GOP nominates

I’ve heard the lacking charisma, actually comes across as flat out angry and arrogant often, but he is a smart guy, educated, and he’ll learn to perform in debates
