Mike Huckabee slams pregnant Natalie Portman

I see. So now, there IS a Dad...he's just "not around."

Murphy Brown, dads who can't be dads unless they have a wedding band - I'm worried about you guys....

You mean there's a sperm donor. I didn't think that was in doubt. But that ain't a father, duh.

You are assuming the father has nothing to do with her life.

Farah Fawcet lived with the father of her children, they never married. Since I don't know Natalie I cannot say if the father is participatory in their lives or not.

Of course you do. But that's not what's happening.

No one likes being preached to about what they "should" be doing in a free country.

of course it's what's happening.....

are you really going to deny the underlying truth of what he said?...

There aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie. And I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies and caretakers and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of children out of wedlock.

just like in Quayle's situation.....the left tried to blow it into some sort of gaff.....shucks, even Candice Bergen agreed Quayle was right about what he said...

personally, I fault the title of the thread for creating the false image......Hucklebee wasn't slamming Portman at all, he was slamming the media for going gaga over her pregnancy.....

He won't get any argument from me about the hardships of a lot of single moms out there. But it's idiotic to single out a happy expectant mother, who is actually engaged btw, and say that there is some sort of glorification of single motherhood.

We have close to a 50% divorce rate in this country. The simple act of being married doesn't make you a better parent; his views are outdated & myopic.

your post beat my edit so I will repeat it......there is nothing in his comment that singled out Portman......he was speaking to the media that singled out Portman......just as Quayle wasn't speaking about Candice Bergen, he was speaking about the media's portrayal of single parenthood.....

there is nothing in his comment about being married making you a better parent.....what IS in his comment is not outdated or myopic.....

what the left is trying to pretend he said is irrelevant compared to what he actually said.....

I would think you of all people would be concerned about being true to what someone had previously said.....since half your posts are devoted to that topic.....

Wonder if Huckabee's criticizing movie stars in general, liberals, or out-of-wedlock pregnancies.

Because I don't recall hearing a peep out of him over Bristol Palin's pregnancy.

"Huckabee said he thought Portman and other starlets who have children out-of-wedlock presented a "troubling" image to the public. He said:

This guy has pretty much killed all chances he used to have. His gaffe with "raised in Kenya"... Then allowing the other side to gain a further leg up by providing them fodder with "no baseball"... Now drawing attention to himself by dogging on Natalie Portman.

Seriously, I think Huckabee is done. Stick a fork in him. He's been entirely unable to control the message, and you ain't going to be President without some control of the message.

Then we are going to have 4 more years of Obama, and if we survive that... some other Democratic Socialist.

Sorry, just the way I see it, if what you say is true. I don't know what has to transpire for you 'libertarian' types to get it... the Democrats are going to raise issue with virtually everything someone on the right says, especially if they appear to be a front-runner. It's their game, they control the message, because they know how to play their game. You fall for it, because you don't understand their game. How many popular conservatives do they need to destroy in the arena of public opinion, before you wake the fuck up?

Oh... I know.... ROMNEYYYY! He's your man!

...I'm predicting he will do WORSE against Obama than John McCain.

Like I said earlier I'm not a fan of Huckabee's statement. That being said my recollection of the media's response to Bristol's pregnancy sure wasn't one of celebration. It was one of she's a hypocrite, her mom's a hypocrite, we need sex ed in school etc. A far far difference than what they are saying about Portman.
