10 Famous Immigrants Who Made America Great
by Jessica Bush
Sep 19, 2017

Immigration, more than ever, generates political debate and polarizes communities – especially in the USA. With President Donald Trump at the helm, much of the conversation around immigration today is negative. Racist generalizations and stereotypes run rife. In his most recent and drastic move, the President has promised to repeal the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, instituted by President Barack Obama in 2012), an action that will put almost 800,000 immigrants who came to the U.S. as children at risk of deportation. Trump continues to label immigrants as criminals, drug addicts and moochers, painting a heinously misconstrued picture of what the immigrant population has done for America.
When you look at the landmark events, inventions and technological breakthroughs that have shaped America though, it’s plain to see that most of them would not have happened without immigrants. Below are 10 of the most famous ones who, single handedly, changed America for the better.

Yeh bullshit, the formation of ghettoes is not bloody mixing, idiot!!

The formation of ghettos is the way it's always been. Minneapolis had the Polish area of the city. New York was divided up into areas by nationality. The farming towns in the midwest were established as German or Norwegian or swedish. Subsequent generations continue to forget the old country and be more American. This is the sort of thing that educated people know but I'm not expecting that of you obviously.

seems racism is at your core hate of other cultures

Stupid twat, I've travelled to more countries than you've had hot dinners. I am in Thailand right now, maybe you ought to get out of your own personal ghetto and go see some of the world before you drop off your perch?

when nations attack minorities because they bow to racism

they often come to America

and then we get reinvigorated

we are the great melting pot

and we were proud of it

BECAUSE the huddled masses then improved our nation in many many ways

racism is a march to a bland and stupid society

All I ever expect from you is bullshit and bollocks, you never disappoint.

Ghettos are almost always the end result of discrimination. People don't gather in those horrific neighborhoods intending to barely survive because they don't want work or better their lives

first the privileged deny minority rights, then they call the minorities lazy and unwilling to work

Great American Melting Pot
Music & Lyrics: Lynn Ahrens
Performed By: Lori Lieberman
Animation: Kim & Gifford Productions
First Aired: 1977

My grandmother came from Russia
A satchel on her knee,
My grandfather had his father's cap
He brought from Italy.
They'd heard about a country
Where life might let them win,
They paid the fare to America
And there they melted in.
Lovely Lady Liberty
With her book of recipes
And the finest one she's got
Is the great American melting pot.
The great American melting pot.
America was founded by the English,
But also by the Germans, Dutch, and French.
The principle still sticks;
Our heritage is mixed.
So any kid could be the president.
You simply melt right in,
It doesn't matter what your skin.
It doesn't matter where you're from,
Or your religion, you jump right in
To the great American melting pot.
The great American melting pot.
Ooh, what a stew, red, white, and blue.
America was the New World
And Europe was the Old.
America was the land of hope,
Or so the legend told.
On steamboats by the millions,
In search of honest pay,
Those 19th-century immigrants sailed
To reach the U.S.A.
Lovely Lady Liberty
With her book of recipes
And the finest one she's got
Is the great American melting pot
The great American melting pot.
What good ingredients,
Liberty and immigrants.
They brought the country's customs,
Their language and their ways.
They filled the factories, tilled the soil,
Helped build the U.S.A.
Go on and ask your grandma,
Hear what she has to tell
How great to be an American
And something else as well.
Lovely Lady Liberty
With her book of recipes
And the finest one she's got
Is the great American melting pot
The great American melting pot.
The great American melting pot.
The great American melting pot.
