Mexico Cancels

Putin certainly doesn't care about "face" -he's a master of realpolitik
.
N.Korea hates everybody
China we haven't delt with -but there is face about Taiwan -agreed.

Well, the State Media has sold us the line, for decades, that we should fear them because they are so thin-skinned that many of them are on a nuclear hair-trigger.

The State Media sells the same "fear" narrative about Islam.

Nieto can hardly claim the high ground. HE is the one who owes US. WE are sitting in the position of authority here. Whether it's a single person or a nation, being in debt is a weak place to be.

absolutely. still why rile the Tiger?
Mexico's president is very unpopular, so this was a no brainer for him to stand up to the gringos...

anyways..."just another brick in the wall"..the wall goes on with or without.
But we got to renegotiate NAFTA too.

" being in debt is a weak place to be. " S #22

A truism that is both indisputable, and entirely irrelevant.

Mexico has every right in the world to spend ITS OWN $money on whatever it wants.

BUT !!

President Trump is not the president of Mexico.

Trump has NO right to spend Mexico's money; to determine their spending priorities.

Building such a wall would be an exorbitant expense for a superpower like the U.S.

It would place a per capita burden on Mexico many times worse than the burden it would impose on the U.S.

And Emperor Trump thinks he can just dictate to Mexico what it will spend its wealth on; even when such expenditure is against Mexico's best interest?

I suspect most 5 year olds know better than this. What a pity the President of the United States of America doesn't have an intellect that rises to that level.

If I were Trump I'd start fucking with Mexico by accusing them of violating the civil and human rights of Guatemalan Dreamers. Those bastards.

I wonder how the border states are feeling about now?

Im glad I dont run an import/export business about now.

The U.S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico, we don't really have an export economy into Mexico.

The issue the U.S. faces is in a trade war, many parts for common appliances are made in Mexico which would cause problems.

On the other hand, Mexico really can't afford not to sell to the U.S.

$14 billion?

probably paid out of foreign aird/remittances/border fees

I suspect you need to go back to kindergarten.

Trump has NO right to spend Mexico's money; to determine their spending priorities.

Mexico has no right to flood the U.S. with illegals by the millions from multiple nations, to include terrorist nations hostile to the U.S.

Mexico has no right to aid in the distribution of narcotics into the U.S. which has caused epidemic levels of overdose.

It would place a per capita burden on Mexico many times worse than the burden it would impose on the U.S.

And the U.S. should care why? Mexico couldn't care less about the impact of it's millions of illegals that devour resources.

In the case of Mexico, it's a puppy that needs to be weaned from the tit.

"$14 billion?" a #29

It's difficult to know for certain.
The flip-flopper in chief has taken so many positions on this,
each position he's taken has a different $price $tag.

The original purpose of the wall was to keep the rapist Mexicans out of the United States of America.
Merely building a wall that satisfies the "I'm gunna build a wall" pledge won't necessarily prevent illegal immigration.
So the cost of building a wall that actually accomplishes what it's supposed to could be much higher than the figures bandied about in the press.

"why is it against Mexico's best interest?" a #29

For the simplest of economic reasons.

The illegal immigrants that are for example migrant farm workers in the U.S. tend to send much of their hard-earned $money back to Mexico to their native Mexican families.

This serves as a significant economic infusion of capital which benefits the economy of the entire nation of Mexico.

Why else do you think Mexican leaders would be so vehemently opposed to such construction, if it was 100% inconsequential?

IT'S BECAUSE IT WOULD HARM THEIR NATION ECONOMICALLY !!!

Mexico isn't complaining about a wall on the U.S. / Canada border. WAKE UP !

They're luvin' it.

Don't you remember when Obama attacked Arizona for wanting to stop illegal immigration?
So if you were to travel to the State of Arizona do you believe they have the right to question your citizenship status given that is a power enumerated by the US. Constitution to the Federal government?

costs estimates ( not Trumps) as low as $10b-as high as $20b..obviously much depends on the design

remittances aren't just from illegals, and they aren't unique to Mexico
( many Puerto Ricans here in Florida do the same - sending money back to Puerto Rico itself)

Regardless; an orderly VISA program for guest workers -where workers do not simply overstay their VISA without consequences
is what's needed.
The Wall is just the first part of immigration reform -but without secure borders, immigration reform has no teeth-little value

Exactly what part of the Constitution are you referring to? The 14th Amendment?

.....all in all it's just another brick in the wall....

Trump needs to shut up - seriously his lack of political experience is fine -his Tweets are counterproductive.
It will all work out, but you simply cannot make a Mexican look bad ( supine) to the gringos..

BS, I strongly disagree- Trump needs Mexico to know who has the stronger hand. The diplomatic responsibility of a president isn't about being liked, it's about politely letting other leaders know you understand the relationship. The Mexican president now understands president Trump is in a postition to discuss how Mexico pays for the Wall- which, BTW, helps Mexico control their own problems with illegals pouring in from their southern border.
