Poor people live longer in prison, because they get access to regular medical care. It turns out that just seeing a doctor once a year, will extend a life by decades on average.

I just cannot support the death penalty in most modern society circumstances. There was a time that we did not have enough resources to keep everyone alive, and had to decide between keeping criminals alive or our children. Back then, I was stuck with the death penalty, just to save children. We have the resources today. There are also a few bizarre situations where a Hitler will continue to inspire people for evil until he is killed. I doubt Lester inspires himself much less anyone else.

House arrest only works for people willing to accept it. Lester is not willing to accept guilt, his family's advice, or anyone else's authority.

The fact is that there needs to be locks on the door where ever we send him, for our good, and his own good. He must never get access to a gun again, and definitely should not have access before. His food needs to be delivered to him, because he cannot get and prepare it for himself. We can call where we put him a prison, or a long term care home, but in most ways it will be the same. If anything, a prison is cheaper.

The evidence is his two younger brothers at the address where he was going to pick them up. The evidence he did not make threats is that threats would not make sense when picking up younger brothers, and that even Lester(the home owner) says that he did not make threats. Breaking in to a house where your younger brothers are playing would make no sense.

The alt right is desperate to make this nice kid a villain, because he is Black, and make the old thug a hero, because he is white. It is racism.

I, too, have a problem with the death penalty when there's risk an innocent person will be killed by the state. OTOH, killing bad people is okay with me.

Let technology be the jail guard. Use a cattle prod on him a few times. He'll get the message to stay home. :)

Again, let technology be the lock...if it's cheaper and more humane. Does the public need to be protected from Lester? Yes. Is it in the best interests of society to lock up an 85 year old geezer? IMO, no. The important point is to neutralize him....and it'd be nice if you didn't spend extra taxpayer money exacting revenge.

That was literally never the story. Yarl's brothers were at a house with a similar address. He was sent to pickup his brothers. When he was shot, he told the neighbor he had been sent to pickup his brothers. When the police arrived, he told the police he had been sent to pickup his brothers. There are literally dozens of witnesses when you start adding it up.

Texting Driver does not believe Yarl, because Yarl is Black. It is solely because of racism. The fact is Yarl's story is beyond iron clad by now.

What crime would Yarl be charged with? Ringing the front doorbell, and asking for his younger brothers is not technically a crime.
