It's about teaching the children... to be good little pinhead protesters!

My point, underscored by links to two articles you apparently are unwilling to read, is this:

The United States of America spends a lot of money on government day care centers and calls them schools.

The result?

Not so good.

Yet you claim that America's taxpayer-funded compulsory day care is "for the most part very successful"?

How so?

My wife and I both went to public schools, not just K-12 but college and grad school. Actually I went to a private grad school and was so unimpressed, I didn't bother to complete the degree. My son went through public K-12 public schools, and got the highest grade possible on 9 AP exams. He's now in a public university and expects to graduate early. Most of the people that I went to college with are just as successful then the ones I know who went private.

That's not to say that there aren't crappy school systems, because there certainly is. That's why I'm an advocate of the voucher system.

It was not until 1852 that Massachusetts became the first state to require attendance by students aged 6 through 16, and it was not until 1918 that all states had compulsory attendance laws.
My grandfather was born in 1904 and got an 8th grade education. He could recite Longfellow by heart, many poems, and had the most impressive vocabulary of anyone that I've since known. There's no question that schools aren't teaching like they used to.

So we actually don't disagree, do we?

The public schools of the past bear scant resemblance to the liberally-dominated day care facilities run by unionists today. Time to cut the cord.

No, I advocate fixing the system. You seem to favor eliminating it completely.

Best leave it to the states and local communities. If my kids weren't getting a good education I'd have moved. Actually we did before they started, and one of the reasons was that we were unimpressed with the local schools.

this is hilarious, you get to claim you were joking, yet you gave no smilies and zero indication you were joking. but when i say i'm joking, and using a smilie, i'm still a liar.

what a fucking joke you are zappa.

hilarious, the board nanny, zappa, is still stuck on this issue. get a life nanny. further, you're being entirely dishonest by ignoring the fact dixie did not limit the discussion solely to the kids in the video. Just in post 8 and 11 dixie talks about other students and he never expressly said this thread was solely about just those kids. And really….why in the world are you still WHINING about this? As if you never go off on tangents in threads. Everyone does that on this board, why all of a sudden is important to you that everyone has to only talk about the kids in the video? Who appointed you board police nanny? Most of the current threads have off topic subjects, but no, zappa has to worry himself silly over me talking about STUDENTS in a thread about students. The board nanny, even though this is not his thread, has taken it upon himself to declare that we can ONLY talk about the kids in the OP. yet, he can whine in post after post about how someone is off topic

the irony is hilarious. but his such a whiny prick, he doesn’t see it. LOL

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW...what's wrong?

Is the BOARD NAZI trying to divert everyone's attention away from the fact he's been telling others how to post for quite a while now?

How can something with so many flaws be fixed? Throw more money at it? The government has no business 'educating' anyone. There is zero constitutional authority for it, and the results are abysmal. Why should anyone else's taxes be appropriated to provide "free" day care for parents?

are you on drugs? i haven't told others HOW to post you flatulating at the mouth nanny. you're the one running around DEMANDING others post on topic...be it damo or anyone on the right. but lord knows the board nanny won't call out anyone on the left. its hilarious that calling you out on your intellectual dishonesty, vis a vis you calling me a liar over a smilie, but yet you get to characterize your post, whereas when i claim my comment was a joke, you maintain that i can't claim that and claiming it makes me a liar. so in reality, you're the one telling me what my comments mean. once again, teh board nanny gets it wrong.

why is it you enjoy policing the posters who lean right? nannyzappa will spend his worthless time policing the right, while ignoring the fact that the left does the same thing. i mean really, you went after damo, myself and who knows what other right leaning poster for talking about STUDENTS in a thread about students. but oh know, nannyzappa wasn 't having any of that, must only talk about the students in the video....YET....nannyzappa makes MULTIPLE off topic posts WHINING about others going off topic and pretty much whining about anything, just to whine.......the irony is hilarious nannyzappa.

nannyzappa to the rescue!!!

you're not talking about the students in the video, i'm reporting you to nannyzappa pronto!

Again you appeal to to your imagined "what ifs". The facts are clear apple-abortion has not provided any measure in reduction of your imagined and pontificated abuses... What is morally repugnant is the use of death as a means to deal with unwanted children. Sex education has been "out of the closet" for the last 30 fucking years and all it has accomplished is a more sexually promiscuous teenage population-who sometimes think to use a condom. What kids need is a morally solid foundation based upon personal responsibility and duty-not the message of "everyone’s doing it" and "if you get pregnant don't worry we can help you get an abortion".

No teenager has any inclination that there is "whispering" about sex- There is little naivety about sex on jr high and high school campuses...get a clue apple you seem to be stuck in the 1950"s.

Would it hurt to implement my suggestions? Is it not worth showing young women that society will help if she bears the child?

Regarding teenagers, contemplate the following. A mother finds a condom in her son's pocket on laundry day or daddy watching a condom fall on the floor as his daughter reaches in her purse for something. What would be the reaction/consequences?

"I'm so proud you're a responsible young man/woman." OR "What the &^%$# is that!!!"

How many teenagers are going to be prepared, carry a condom, if getting caught with one ends in a fight and being grounded? That's what I mean by "out of the closet".

Teenagers seldom plan for sex. It's more like they take it on the run. If the opportunity arises they are not going to waste time going to the drug store.

Finally, as for my being stuck in the 50's, may I have this dance, M'Lady?

There is plenty of help apple-but of course the more help the better.

I am regularly around teenagers-they are completly aware and educated about sex and its potential consequences- education about sex is not the problem the education about personal responsibility and integrity is what's lacking. Teenagers are always planning for/thinking about sex! Too many of them just don't give a flying fuck for the consequences- ex-employees of abortion clinics have attested to the fact that many teenagers and young adults use abortion as their means of birth control.

It looked to me as though you were quoting me in your feud with zappasguitar.

If I'm mistaken, please accept my apology.

Apple really ought to STFU and stop making an ass out of himself with the stupid rants about his imaginary unwanted babies, etc....
He sounds like a fuckin' psychopath off his meds.

I've given you two examples of fixes, one reduces spending on the federal level and the other is spending neutral on the local level.

it was not my intention to include you in the feud you think we have. perhaps we do have one. if so, i would never wish such feud on anyone. in hindsight, i can see how you thoiught my post tried to incude you, i will be more careful in the future.

Have you?

I've seen results indicating that the US isn't getting it's money's worth on public "education". Spending is up, outcomes are down.

Do you have a source that says otherwise?

That's because the fixes that I have described have been ignored, duh.

Are you surprised? To whom have you suggested your "fixes"?

There is no constitutional authority (that I know of) for compulsory government-controlled education.

Since the authorities have ignored the limits on their powers, why should they listen to you?
