some good ideas on this thread. I'd argue what we say has little to do with ISIS or al-Qaeda recruitment.
Or more exactly the wars in Iraq and Libya have sown the seeds for ISIS to expand.
AQ came about by itself; it's a branch of salafi Islam that encourages jihad for both political and religious reasons.
ISIS we all know about -but again it's salafi Islam expressed as jihad.
There is this idea that closing Gitmo somehow reduces recruitment - when in fact if you follow the Long War Journal
you see that Gitmo is rarely mentioned in recruitment video.

So whatever we say isn't all that important - but it is a factor and clarity is a much better way.
Things have a life of their own. The ME countries are terrified of ISIS too, and for that reason are/will going after them..
