Is this too far?

right. But the amendment was the legal ground for the fed's to enforce it.
It took the Voting Rights Act and a desire to do so. But again those are gov't functions (legislation as well as enforcement)

It's because of federalism (state sovereignty in this case with Jim Crow laws) that the south as able to delay
And it's unusual for fed'l law to be delayed like that - now with the challenges to NC's law -it's ruled on and enforced
at the same time.
Challenges to state laws under the Voting Rights Act are heard speedily and enforced.

It took over 100 years Cos........... How many generations is that?? Even then the ppl had to fight, & some die for it to be enforced-NOT GUBMENT BENEVOLENCE OR LAW!!

I gotta feeling we are talking past each other.... who is the government but we the people?
Who is claiming gov't benevolence( good word)?

My point was these things workout in different ways -but the ways they do work out are all institutional.

And of course you voiced such comments, when our JPP liberals were chastising him. :dunno:
Don't think I was here for that, but any chastising I did at the time was because Tebow sucked. Not because he couldn't control his man crush on Christ. His followers, however, were either convinced that his wins were via divine intervention, or because he was an amazing QB.

Truth is, Denver lost its way into the playoffs that season. Where is Tebow now?

In theory sure it is, but as I have shown the theory & the actualization are not the same, they work out inspite of those institutions & their entrenched interests.....

Hell even the Kennedy's didn't rock that boat, it wasn't till Johnson laid it on them, if they liked it or not........ & those dems bolted..........

This was the 1700's- the only people that had any rights were landowners..
I wasn't saying "it worked out like they planned" : I did say we self corrected (an important point) but that the Constitution allows for that-
by amendments, and where it wasn't able to be amended without a Civil War, we did that too.

We got civil rights and voting rights by everyone -regardless of color or sex, creed.

One thing you might consider is we have no class system either.
No Lords and Ladies which means everyone is now born equal under the law
at least from a legal .p.o.v
I think the sticking point here is that you view our laws as an improvement...rightfully so.

Others view the implementation of these laws, coupled with the non stop attempts by 'certain' lawmakers to change the laws that specifically give rights to everyone.

And we most certainly do have a caste system. Not written in law books, but certainly created/supported by our Capitalist system of govt.

well I do agree it took some "push comes to shove" to get it done, but if it wasn't set up that way-
(Congress/Amendments)it might never have gotten done.
One thing I recll from when I was a kid was white prejudice, but even back then when whites ruled the agenda
that underlying fact that blacks had the right to vote, made it an ineviatability.

I'm wondering if the voting Rights act would have even passed if it wasn't for the Civil War,and the Amendment.

It's like the chicken and the egg debate...which came first?

we have a plutocratic rule, but we most certainly do NOT have a Caste/class system.

If you are born into a low caste in India, or you are born a Lord in Great Britain that is your station in life.
I'm not 100% sure but I think only high caste can go to Godhead (or whatever the heck the Hindu equivalent of nirvana is )

Caste System
The justification of this “social stratification” is linked to the justification of Karma and Samsara. Karma refers to action, each person’s birth is directly related to the past karma from the previous life of that individual, birth into the Brahmin Varna is a result of good karma. “Those who’s conduct here has been good will quickly contain some good birth – birth as a Brahmin, birth as a kshatriya, or birth as a vaisya. But those who conduct here has been evil will quickly attain some evil birth – birth as a dog, birth as a pig, or birth as a chandala” (Chandogya Upanishad 5.10.7). According to this, Karma determines birth into a class, which in turn defines one’s social and religious status, which in turn describes one’s duties and obligations to that specific status. Samsara refers to the “wheel of life, the circle of constant rebirth” (Molloy 87). Hindus believe in reincarnation and that the Karma from one’s previous life leads to where that individual is placed into in society.

as to the rest//ya..sure. I do not disagree

[h=1]Affluenza' teen Ethan Couch gets tentative order for 2-year jail term[/h]
The jail time is the latest twist in the deceptively complex and well-publicized sentence Couch received in 2013: 10 years of probation for intoxication manslaughter, instead of prison, after his lawyers cited a now notorious "affluenza" defense, suggesting he was too rich and spoiled to understand the consequences of his actions.

This P.O.S had to violate probation in order to get ONLY 2 years in jail.

Black people refuse to assimilate even when they are paid millions to run into each other. This maybe the end of the NFL.

Yes you have a right to protest, but as an employee your employer can set standards you must follow. And if you don't be released.

How do they refuse to assimilate?

Does this mean that you FEEL that Kaepernick has a man crush on Blacks?

Getting rid of the national anthem is the end game with you progressives, isn't it.

LOL
Save the anthem for events that really matter. It cheapens it to play it for commercial purposes. Witness the disrespect the players show for it. Let them compose their own music... or better yet they could have L'il Wayne and Missy Eliot whip up something to tug at the fan's hearts

It's only empty if he pussies out like you suggest.
That's correct. But it effectively tests his conviction, as he did with the kids he coaches. Given that hockey is typically a pasty white sport, the team will probably wear pro George Zimmerman hats.
