In line for a COVID test.

sure thing gramps

Feeling really old today. Gotta have cataract surgery. Can't drive at night these days, because the lights coming at me all have huge halos around them. Don't want to hurt anyone, including myself, so all night driving is done by my wife.

Shit! The only thing even faintly good about getting older...is getting older. I stay in shape these days mostly with that in mind.

Anyway, doctor is going to do the procedure with a laser.

I asked him if I'd be able to play the piano after the surgery. He said, "Of course. How have the cataracts hindered your piano playing?"

I replied, "It hasn't. I just never learned to play...and I was wondering."

He said he is going to charge me extra.

you forgot the part about the onion on the belt Gramps

Anyone standing in the streets yelling, "Fuck the police" is an asshole.

You've got a long way to go just to be the sorriest in this forum. Unfortunately, the world is full of assholes. There was a long time where I was an asshole, but I put an end to that yesterday.

Reagan (for whom I had, regretfully, voted) in his first Inaugural Address used, "...government is THE problem..."...not "government is part of the problem." Of course I think government can be part of the problem. During the four years of the Trump administration I might even suppose that government was a large part of the problem. But my better side knows that GOVERNMENT is the essential means to civilization, society and community. For better or worse, a society MUST set rules...and the means of doing that is government.

Why give up being an a*hole? Isn't that grounds for being kicked out of New Jersey?! :)

human rights?? how far does that get us with China?
like nowhere - China literally has re-education camps -we whine and complain and then increase trade
China goes about the world creating debt nations with it's "one belt one road"

When Blinken met the Chinese at Anchorage they mocked him for the woke junk his adm was peddling

Human rights is at the bottom of the list (along with democracy) in our dealings with China and Russia
we got some realpolitik to attend to before we can worry about such niceties

You don't live in Russia. You do not get to determine they are unworthy of human and democratic rights, or to tell them to shut up and just live with it because North Korea and China are worse

no one said unworthy. but on the scale of importance how much are they even in Russia or China?
I'd venture not a whole lot -except for the intelligentsia

Public opinion on human rights in Putin-era Russia
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6082807/
Major setbacks in the protection of human rights during the Putin regime have produced little public outcry, suggesting that there is scant support for human rights in Russian public opinion

No idea, but we shouldn’t have to wait 4 hours

In light of people having to wait days in California to get tested this comment is rather funny. So we have this omicron varient running wild and we just finished the holiday season with a bunch of travel. But I demand to walk into a testing center on the first day post holiday and basically not have to wait in line.

just 4 hours

NEW YORK — New Yorkers continue to face long lines and wait times for COVID-19 testing amid an alarming spike in cases across the five boroughs just days before Christmas.

Videos of long lines in Manhattan, some spanning several city blocks, were shared on social media over the weekend. Meanwhile, a woman posted footage of a long line outside of a testing center in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, describing a seven-hour wait.

“I [joined] the line at 9:45 (a.m.). It’s just after 12 (p.m.) and I finally made it to the end of the block to wrap the corner.

So dip shit whos fault is it for the long lines in NY? It sure as fuck wasnt the Gov of Fla

Here in Palm Beach County they are testing at the Library, the same place where I vote.

It’s a contest to see which takes longer voting or testing, both things our Governor is trying to make harder to do.

So far we’ve waited 1.5 hours. The line of cars is backed up miles.

Last time I voted on Election Day it took 2.5 hours.

Florida is once again a complete disaster. My dad took a fall yesterday and had to be taken to the hospital. He is still in the ER because there are no beds available. And they are still waiting for the wave to hit. And this idiot and his Surgeon General are trying to DISCOURAGE testing, I assume for the same reason Trump did. He doesn't want the real numbers to get out. The Emperor has no clothes.

If it is not time to stop testing yet, then we are almost there. We need to stop testing people and do better at testing communities by sewage samples.

When I look at what we are doing, and how almost everyone who should know better is being a coward, I am just crushed.

How could we let this happen, when did we get to be so dumb, where were the warnings?

Why did you need the test? Sorry if you already answered that question.

Today, as part of my weekly running around, I got my first of two Shingles shots. It took about half an hour even though I called in and it's a small town. Why the wait? Fucking COVID tests.

While waiting I chatted with the pharmacist about why so many tests. TBH, I've never had one. Either I was sick or I wasn't. As a retiree, there's no need for testing for work or school.

He said it was mostly people returning from the holidays and visiting family. They just wanted to know. He also said that about 20% of the positives were vaccinated but they weren't feeling any symptoms.

Took me about 15 minutes to vote last time. Had a COVID test a few weeks ago it took less than 10 minutes. Never left my car.

I hope your father is better soon.

I should not wait in line to vote or get Covid tested, but my Governor has taken steps to make both harder.

He is clearly discouraging voting and testing for his own political benefit.

Got my shots, but never got tested
We got tested, but it wasn’t rapid test and we made an appointment. We had guest coming, my older sister and hubby, and they have health issues, we also had my son and his girlfriend coming. They got tested, too.

I had to order home test over the internet for my son’s girlfriend and was fortunate to find them. She wanted to take a test before returning home because of her elderly grandma there. She had friend try to find some in her hometown and they were unsuccessful.

Good for you! I just have to get my pneumonia shots now, then I will be caught up! I’m glad I got my shingles vaccinations, after seeing what my sister went through, I ran to get mine! She had it on her face! She was miserable.

Are you claiming the hospital is full because of Covid? Bullshit!

You probably picked a bad hospital because you don't know the area.

Covid panic does bring out each and every neurotic hypochondriac for sure.
