In line for a COVID test.

When "your side" has hundreds of thousands or millions of people in the streets chanting "Fvck The Police" do you see that as a love song to government?

No...I see that as a bunch of assholes showing that they are assholes. I have no problem seeing it that way.

I'm sorryj...

Yes, you are. One of the sorriest.

... you can't understand the nuance that 1) gov't has a role to play in our functioning society and 2) yes, when gov't oversteps its bounds or gets too involved it can/does become the problem - and it's ok to call that out

I do understand that...and I advocate for that.

I am not against that at all.

I am just against all the shit the morons of the right throw out against government being the problem, not part of the solution.

Jeez. I thought I made that clear.

Yeltsin? "democratic" drunk? Russia is far beter off without him - the Communists were polling higher before we interfered in the election. Putin was anti-Communist..
Yeltsin is just one person. Russia is a nation of 150 million.
At one time Russia had an incipient and robust free press, legitimate free speech, and had the potential to develop civil society such that democracy could take root for the long term.

I hope so… but I’m positive so even if I’m better, I’ll be home for 5 days.

Sorry to hear this, Jarod. I know you were being very careful. Hope all goes well...and that you are safely back in public real soon.

Thanks… I got it from an unvaccinated person who failed to mention she had symptoms.

Clinton gave him all kinds of support -monetary and professional. If Yeltsin wasn't such a screw up he wouldn't have had to resign.

Putin came in and basically saved Russia from enormous corruption and scandals .
democracy is fine and dandy, but a means to an end -not an end to itself

For my clarification when you reference people being *ssholes are you referencing the police or the people protesting the police?

I'm just one of the sorriest? How much do I have to do to earn the title of the most sorriest? :)

To me your response seems contradictory in that you acknowledge the gov't can overstep its bounds and be part of the problem and then disliking people saying gov't is part of the problem.

Oh, horse shit.

Liberals do not "love" government...they see government as a necessary thing...an institution that allows society to function.

But you assholes see it as something to be destroyed...and yet you want to be in charge.

I can only guess that is the result of massive stupidity on the part of the Right.

the purpose of the government we support is to protect the rights of the individual, , not to create a progressive utopia

but thanks for reminding me you aren't dead. I got something else to root for in 2022

Putin is no Stalin, and it is undeniable he played a role in stemming Russia's economic collapse.

I blame capitalism, especially the cowboy capitalism American advisors told Russia would pave the way to economic Nirvana. The worst way to convince people socialism is wrong, is to introduce them to hyped up libertarian free market economics on steroids.

Whatever good Putin did 20 years ago is now irrelevant compared to the damage he is doing to human rights and civil society in Russia.

My cousin Misha in Moscow wrote on his FB page yesterday that he hopes to live long enough to see Putin put on trial.

Here in Palm Beach County they are testing at the Library, the same place where I vote.

It’s a contest to see which takes longer voting or testing, both things our Governor is trying to make harder to do.

So far we’ve waited 1.5 hours. The line of cars is backed up miles.

Last time I voted on Election Day it took 2.5 hours.

I guess Gavin Newsom and all the Democrats who run the state and the Bay Area just hate government and we shouldn't put them in charge during a pandemic. Do I have that right?

Bay Area Residents Searching for COVID-19 Tests Face Wait Times and Shortages

As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in California and across the country, many people are clamoring to get a COVID-19 test. A growing rate of Californians are testing positive for COVID-19 with the state reporting a seven-day average positivity rate of 15.9% on Friday.

For weeks, at-home rapid tests have been difficult to find in Bay Area drug stores. CVS noted there has been a "recent surge in demand" at-home COVID-19 tests and said it has added a limit of six test kits per purchase.

Appointments for PCR COVID-19 tests (which take one to three days to return results) are also running short. On Friday, for example, the earliest available test appointments through Sant Clara County were on Jan. 5 at the Gilroy location and on Jan. 6 at the San Jose location.

Emily in San Francisco told NBC Bay Area she tested positive for COVID-19 at home using a rapid test. She told her doctor about it and tried to sign up for PCR a test through her healthcare provider as her doctor requested. The soonest available appointment she could find was nine days later.

Maybe, I don’t know much about him. Has he been MIA ever since the new spike took over?

I don't follow his schedule so I have no idea what he does on a daily basis. But you're complaining about having to wait in line for a couple of hours when we have people here waiting days to get tested. If that's the basis for determining whether one likes/hates gov't or should be in office during a pandemic then this doesn't present Newsom in the best light.

DisSantis disappears every time Covid spikes here.

He is hoping the voters forget about his pro Covid policies before the next election.

Anyone standing in the streets yelling, "Fuck the police" is an asshole.

I'm just one of the sorriest? How much do I have to do to earn the title of the most sorriest? :)

You've got a long way to go just to be the sorriest in this forum. Unfortunately, the world is full of assholes. There was a long time where I was an asshole, but I put an end to that yesterday.

To me your response seems contradictory in that you acknowledge the gov't can overstep its bounds and be part of the problem and then disliking people saying gov't is part of the problem.

Reagan (for whom I had, regretfully, voted) in his first Inaugural Address used, "...government is THE problem..."...not "government is part of the problem." Of course I think government can be part of the problem. During the four years of the Trump administration I might even suppose that government was a large part of the problem. But my better side knows that GOVERNMENT is the essential means to civilization, society and community. For better or worse, a society MUST set rules...and the means of doing that is government.

Fuck you, Asshole.

And you are welcome.

Ok. I don't live in Florida nor pay all that much attention to what goes on in the state so I can't speak about DeSantis one way or the other.

But based on the criteria you and others have laid out, Newsom and California are as bad or worse if waiting in line for hours or days means the Governor doesn't care and hates government.

human rights?? how far does that get us with China?
like nowhere - China literally has re-education camps -we whine and complain and then increase trade
China goes about the world creating debt nations with it's "one belt one road"

When Blinken met the Chinese at Anchorage they mocked him for the woke junk his adm was peddling

Human rights is at the bottom of the list (along with democracy) in our dealings with China and Russia
we got some realpolitik to attend to before we can worry about such niceties
