I'm starting to change my mind on Trump!

True. But right now I believe he's doing more good for the GOP than bad. He's opening up for almost every type of policy criticism by speaking out against Obama. Whomever our candidate is won't have to face the constant "racist" cries for speaking out on policy like so many people had to face in the previous election. Obama talking about how he "didn't look like the other Presidents" and that was why people spoke out against policy... so forth.

I tend to agree with this, and I also think Trump helps the GOP by forcing the hands of the other candidates a little. By bringing up the issue of the birth certificate, they are forced to take a vocal position one way or the other, and the challenge he presents them, is not easy to meet. Trade with China, another issue most of the typical GOP candidates will shy away from... border security.... you name it, Trump is not afraid to state his opinion and challenge you to tell him why he is wrong. I think this will help the GOP in fundamental ways we can't even imagine at this point, just in making the candidates have to re-evaluate their approach. Whether he wins the nomination or not, his influence in the campaign, will have shaped and molded a battle-tested message for the general election.

That's a fairly delusional thing to say - but unsurprising, given some of your past pronouncements.

Trump would get obliterated in a general election. It wouldn't even be close....

I will disagree with you on the above point. IF he were to be the Rep nominee, it will depend entirely on what the economy looks like in November 2012. If the job market hasn't improved, Obama is going to lose. While I absolutely hate the idea of Trump as President, he could win.... just see the examples of Arnold in CA and Ventura in MN and Franken in MN.... people in this country are enamored with 'celebrity'. That is the type of hype that got a completely inexperienced Obama elected as well. While the politically astute will mock the Donald (for good reasons in my view)... the vast majority of the public doesn't really pay attention to the process. Far too many will punch a ticket for Dem or Rep just because they are a Dem or Rep.

That said, I too believe this is either a publicity stunt on Trumps part or that if he is really serious, he will implode the second people start criticizing him.

Arnold wasn't a joke before he was governor, and he ran as a moderate. Franken was always political anyway. No one's gone from being most notable for reality television to being a big nominee.

Whether he decides to run or not I think we most/all agree Trump loves publicity. I'm curious though if putting himself out as a partisan would hurt him in terms of people wanting to watch his TV show or even deciding to live in one of his buildings?

Yeah and?

Nice reply.

Seriously: Iraq chooses Iran or the US.

Then they'd choose Iran.

Who can take on 20 times their GDP in debt? No one, for any reason. 68 billion alone is enough that they'd be equal to us in debt compared to the size of their country. In case you were wondering, we sort of benefit from not having Iran conquer Iraq or set up an Irani puppet state (more likely) as well. We can't treat our friends like shit and expect to survive as a nation.

I keep hearing the 'angle' that Trump might be doing this to promote his show, or for publicity.... but he isn't going to announce his candidacy until the show ends in a few weeks. Now, I will say, I did watch the show the first season, and a little of the second.. but then it got boring to me, as all reality shows generally are.. and I have watched a few episodes of this season, it is a little different with the celebrities.. but in all honesty, Trump as well as the rest of us, know the whole "Apprentice" genre is about over. It has ran it's course, and it's time to put it to bed for good. So, Trump is certainly not doing this to promote his show, which will likely end at the conclusion of this season... that makes no sense. His ratings are also very high, there isn't a motivating reason for him to need to attract viewers to the show, he already has them for the most part. So that doesn't make sense to me either... and just a general publicity stunt? Why? What purpose would Trump have for getting publicity this way? There are surely less expensive ways!

I really do think Trump is running, and he believes he can win. Either that, or this is a carefully crafted plan to help nominate Mitt Romney, by weakening the TEA. We'll have to wait and see what develops, but speaking purely speculatively, if Trump were to make it through the primaries and win the GOP nomination, Obama is in some really serious trouble. So you don't think we can elect Trump president? .....Yes We Can!!

:lmao:

Sorry, Dix, but this further shows how little you know the guy. Trump = promotion. It's basically what he does (and he does it very well). It is not only possible that he's doing this to increase visibility for the Apprentice as the finale starts to draw nearer - anyone who has watched Trump for any length of time would say that it's obvious that's the reason he's doing it. Trump doesn't think "oh, it's already getting great ratings - I don't have to do anything." That's just not how he thinks.

I don't know - anything is possible, but I think the economy would have to be pretty bad for Trump to have any shot at all.

He'll run a bad campaign; he is unhandle-able....

Criticizing him? You don't think people already criticize him? And how does Trump handle that? He has been criticized, but here's the rub... what policy are you going to attack him on? He doesn't have a political track record.... nothing there to criticize. So that leaves the pinheads swinging at air... he is dumb... he looks like a monkey... he is stupid.... he has bad hair.... he's really dumb! I think Trump will have no problem with those criticisms. I do appreciate the fact that he isn't afraid to speak his mind on issues, rather than give us some canned rhetoric that avoids a direct answer to the questions. I think that appeals to a good many people out there, who might not totally agree with him, but recognize he does have the courage to state his convictions and make the case for his position. Like him or not, that is something to be admired.

Well, you could be right... but you're probably not. As I said, this is probably the last year of the show... Trump knows this. Whether he runs for president or not, the show has ran its course, and the audience is beginning to decline, as is always the case with any show on television. It is still the top-rated show for its time slot, and one of the highest rated reality shows of all time, but everyone, including Trump, knows and understands, "celebrity" Apprentice was the "Jump the Shark" moment.. they've done about all they can do with it... time to end it and put it to bed. That's a really bizarre time to be going out there and pretending you're running for president to get publicity for it, don't you think? I mean, if this were Season 2? Maybe I could see it... that might make sense... but he's not doing this to get publicity for the twilight of his TV show.

If you ask Trump, he'll tell you that his show is the most popular, groundbreaking show on television. This is the 4th installment of the Celeb Apprentice (not just Apprentice), so he "jumped the shark" a few years back, if that's the case. And he is always interested in boosting ratings, as well as the Trump brand in general - especially for the upcoming finale. He is a relentless promoter - there is no quit in him on that front. It just wouldn't be his mindset.

Your naivete is truly telling. My reply was equal to your question.

As to Iraq taking on the burden of repayment-this is hardly a Trump idea. Indeed it used to be mostly congressional democrats trumpeting the call!

Well then, we will have to tune in and see, won't we? If Trump is merely doing this to promote his show, he will announce he isn't running for president! He can't run for president and host another season, can he? This is precisely why he said he couldn't announce until the conclusion of the current season. So, if this is all about publicity for the show, his announcement will be that he ISN'T running for president.

I think he will announce the conclusion of the Apprentice series, and his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States.

If you think he has a prayer of a chance without setting forth policy positions, then you are insane. Yes, he doesn't have much to criticize now, but he will have to set forth an agenda. When he does, he is going to get criticized. He doesn't handle that well.
