Illogical Hillary demands all schools be above average!!!!

Well, if you close over half of the schools that are currently average or below, then you set a new average with the schools that are left, which you would then close over half of because they are performing at average or below...

Pretty soon there'd be no schools if you follow this path.

What a ridiculous argument.

Get excited when they allow them to compete. Taking an average of crappy public schools and closing some won't improve education if you just fill the gap with newly minted crappy public schools with the same teachers and philosophy.

School districts have a performance baseline. How do you figure that the baseline would change just because the crappy schools closed?

Are you making the same assumption I did that all the closing schools would re open as something else? Becaus otherwise what they are saying is correct.

This is so true cawacko. I have been saying for 20 years that we need segregation in schools to be successful. I've probably even said it on this site a few times. We still need it. I believe that it would be the single best improvement to our schools causing the highest degree of success for our students...all of them.

I'm disappointed with this. :(

LMAO. He's a Democrat who's been a public teacher for decades but he's evil and stupid because you disagree with how he feels kids should be divided in school.

You should honestly GKY. Engage the man in a conversation if you have a question or issue with what he's saying.

He's the nicest poster on this board and look at your response. Again, GKY.

It wouldn't have been such a hot button if he had said "separated" rather than "segregated."

Compete, I hate that word when it comes to education, it means profits, or that it what it usually ends up meaning. I think you have to be very careful about competition.

It's not about profits. If we want schools to improve there has to be elements of competition or there's no incentive to get better. If people are ok with mediocrity and don't want competition then fine, to each his own.

No, I was thinking work would be done to upgrade them and bring them into compliance. It's tough. Most of the bad districts are in poor areas to begin with.

Hence the competition angle. It works well in other nations and improves the schools using human nature. Parents send their kids to the school that will do best for them rather than to the government monopoly because that's all they can do. Sometimes the public school will win, sometimes even the government hires somebody who does a good job.

Which countries make their schools compete for funds, thanks.

When she said keep good schools open I took that to imply the bad ones would close.

The whole premise of NCLB, which was fortunately mostly just repealed, was failing schools needed to be brought up to compliance. We can judge for ourselves how that worked. ( meaning some may say it did others saying it didn't)

If you live in a poor area with low income levels all the caring in the world isn't going to help. I think it's false to say that parents are okay with mediocrity. People who don't have kids and still have to pay school taxes are the ones who aren't complaining. By this I don't mean all don't complain. Read some of the anti-tax posts on this forum for an explanation.

No, when there is competition it means there are winners and there are losers, when it comes to education, it should be equal.

Isn't that what they said about the prison system, too? It won't be about profits, it will be about making the system more efficient. lol
