Take for instance the county where I live. Typical of about 60-65 out of our 77 counties. First, there are no facilities to handle the type of student population one school would have. To build the facilities would cost millions that our state doesn't have. Secondly, this county is over 1600 square miles. Bussing would be a nightmare. In the district where I work we have kids on the bus for an hour and a half. Kids in ages ranging from 3 - 17. How long is too long? When does the bus ride adversely affect a kid's ability to be efficient in the classroom once they get to school? I can easily see bus rides approaching 2 hour or more to a centralized school location. This type of proposal has been looked at before and there is nothing good in such a bill for the students and the savings in tax dollars is minimal at best, break even at worst. That's what I have in a nutshell. It would work for some counties but not for the overwhelming majority of them.
