I don't know anything about the black experience, but I know a gazillion times more about it than you do.
Anyone who tries to compare a black guy voting for Obama because he's black to a white guy voting for Romney because he's white is seriously out of touch.
Seriously. It would be cool to vote for a Buddhist for President. I wouldn't cross party lines to do it, but it would be cool. And some Buddhists that didn't vote in previous elections might register and vote in the election because it would be cool. I can see that. I can see why black people would be excited to vote for a black President. I just don't see why you would need to add that all those "whites" always did this in the past and suggest racism without evidence.
Have Buddhists been oppressed in this country? Have they had to fight for their rights every step of the way?
A more apt comparison might be a woman voting for Hillary, again, just to break the barrier. I get that.
As for Jackson's "evidence," I can see where a black guy would look at the history of over 40 white males as President and conclude that perhaps there was some racism somewhere in there.

that argument would never pass for anyone but a liberal. it's pretty much in idiotic argument because it's just flat out wrong.
The only way it's "wrong" is if you can make the case that the black experience in America has been more or less identical to what the white experience has been.

No. And before 2008, it was never a serious issue to consider. But how many whites are voting for the white guy, simply because he's one of them...just like you and others are asserting the same of black people? I would surmise, "many".
Again, the evidence before him clearly indicates otherwise. If such were evident he'd be talking about President McCain while stating he had voted for Barack because he was black.

Actually, the evidence at the time that he cast his vote for Obama, as of election day 2008, was a whole lot of white presidents. Now, I suppose it's wrong to suggest that white people made a conscious choice to vote for white candidates, but they never really had the opportunity to vote for a non-white person before Obama.

Which again, was my point in the first post where Onceler deliberately missed my point and started in on this conversation we've been having between us. Immediate assumption of "white folk" notwithstanding, the current evidence clearly indicates that his statement is both ignorant and inaccurate, a negative view based solely on their pigmentation rather than evidence.

I couldn't tell you how many 'whites' are voting for the white guy simply because he's one of them. I've never been able to identify or understand that level of stupidity and ignorance.

hundreds of years of history doesn't negate the fact that a person voted for president based on the color of his skin. that is racism. whether you choose to ignore or accept that is up to you.

Bunch of privileged white guys getting their knickers in a knot because a black man who lived through the civil rights movement had the audacity to say that he voted for the first black presidential candidate because he was black all while invoking MLK (aside bit of trivia: Jackson was one of his pall bearers) and declaring that our "racist past" is kept alive and well by white people being sympathetic to that decision.
