‘I Voted for Barack Because He Was Black’

The racist "past." Hilarious.

And voting for someone because of their race isn't racist. Not voting for someone because of their race is. Voting for a black person because he's black is understandable. Voting for a white guy because he's white is fuckind stupid. It's like voting for a guy because he's a guy. Asinine.

I am very late to this discussion so if I have missed something that led up to this comment then I apologize. Just wanted to ask if I'm understanding it correctly. You're saying a black person who votes for a black candidate because that candidate is black is understandable. A white person who votes for a white candidate because that candidate is white is fucking stupid. And a guy who votes for a candidate because he is a man is asinine.

You didn't miss anything.

that is not why he voted for him. you can't make up his reasons. he made his reasons very clear - because obama is black

that is racist.

Don't be a moron. More people voted against him because he is black. That is racist.

what is sad is that you don't accept jackson's reasons for voting for obama. you have to inject your own pathetic reasons in order to justify your racism. your logic is disgusting and harmful to this country.

you are essentially (in fact - imo) saying that it is ok to vote for a black presidential candidate solely because they are black.

i can't even believe people like you exist. no wonder this country has not moved on from its racial past. idiots like you will keep hate and racism alive.

You really are a moron. I worked with a 60 year old Boston ironworker during the election. He had been a campaign worker for various Kennedys, but was not going to vote for Obama. Why do you think a lifetime union member would suddenly vote republican? There were many more like him.

Actual, bonafide racism never really seems to bother Yurt that much. Just the fake kind that he makes up.

I can't wait to get rid of Obama because I object to his policies. It has nothing at all to do with race. If Obama were a libertarian, I would support him.

Many liberals find it unfathomable that anyone could support a candidate based on where they stand on the issues, rather than race. They think everyone else is like them. But this couldn't be further from the truth, and I ask you politely not to question my character and motives again in the future. I have been very cordial toward you in spite of our extreme differences in ideology; I suggest you show the same level of consideration.

Go jump in a big lake. You're just as likely to throw me to the wolves as be cordial. I don't know you. Further, I don't trust you. I'll question anyone's character and/or motives, as I see fit. What do you think this is? A "fun ride"? I don't get you crazies, adopting ID's of long dead generals and historical figures. How arrogant. You're not the embodiment of General Burnside...and why are you "hailing Voltaire"? Insanity.
I, personally, can't envision any white conservative or libertarian objecting to President Obama (which you refuse to respect the office by labeling him "Obama"), simply because of "his policies". It doesn't compute.
"They think everyone is like them"????????? What is that supposed to mean? I don't think that you're like me. I'm not racist. I voted for white Democratic contenders for the White House, simply because there was no other choice. For years. Now that you have a choice, and there are no other black candidates to vote for, can we say that you're voting for the "white guy", because of race? Because that sure would be racist, on your part, now wouldn't it? See how that works? There are no "outs"...no special caveats, to remove you from incrimination. Find me one sane Republican or Libertarian. One.

So what the fuck is your point, moron......
Voting for OR against someone because of their race is racist.....and the number of people voting is irrelevant......

And of course, a life long Democrat / or Republican (its makes no difference) voting because of race is by definition "RACIST"......whether you Dune or Poet think ontherwise just reflects on your own bigotry.....

Glad you agree. Wish you realised we agree, but I"ll settle for what I can get. Isn't it a little early to be drinking Bravo?

Edit; maybe you should have addressed this post to Yurt? He is the one who disagrees with you.

Absolutely it's okay. Do you have a problem with other "one issue" voters?

I can definitely see where someone who is black thinks that it's important to break through that ceiling, all other things being equal. The fact that you think it's 'the same' as a white dude voting for a white dude simply because he's white is incomprehensible.

You're dopey as all hell...

Most of us can't imagine it because it isn't something we've ever thought about. When Clinton is running against Bush, for instance, at what point did anybody say, "I'm voting for the white guy!"

Conservatives voted either Bush or were convinced Ross Perot was the answer to bad fiscal policy, they didn't vote against Clinton because he was "black"... That's silly.

Nor was it in any of our minds when we voted for somebody other than Obama. We saw what he proposed and disagreed with the policy, just as we did with Clinton or Bush.

When "the black guy" won with 52% of the vote it wasn't because people won't vote for the black guy, and the vast majority of voters that voted for "the white guy" weren't doing it because he was white. That's a silly charge based in nonsense and ignorance of others, not on any sort of strong reality supported by any evidence whatsoever. While I can understand that some people like that can exist, I don't know them, hang with them, or understand them. Nor do I want to.

Duh. Up until Obama, it was always white guys in the "serious" running. Your point makes no sense.
I can tell you that when Obama was the nominee vs. the great white hope, John McCain...it automatically became an issue of "voting for the white guy vs. voting for the black guy", for various and sundry reasons, including race.

Saying that they would have voted Democrat if Obama was white is junk assumption based on flat ignorance.

Actually, it makes no sense to say that people always voted "for the guy that looked like them" when noticing that every person previous to that was "white"... They weren't voting for "the white guy" because he was white they voted for somebody because of policy.

And again, nobody I know voted for anybody because he was "white" they voted for McCain because he was more conservative fiscally than Obama, amazingly as he was one of the more liberal republicans out there. As I said, I don't know of anybody that voted "for" somebody because of their skin color other than Samuel Jackson. I certainly don't know of anybody who voted for McCain because he wasn't black.

While many people didn't vote for Obama, for the extreme majority of those there wasn't even consideration as to his pigmentation. Samuel Jackson's assertion that people voted for the "guy that looks like them" forever is the point. They weren't voting for either of the choices because he "looked like them"... That's a silly and historically ignorant view assuming that huge numbers of people who don't vote Democrat because of their policies would decide to vote that way if Obama were white is where his assumption falls flat. These people choose again and again to vote against what they believe to be bad policy. Just because the dude espousing them is black doesn't make them suddenly "good" policy for those that disagree.

Whatever. I've tried very hard to understand you, but now the only thing I can do is pity you. You are quite possibly the most mean-spirited, bigoted individual I've ever encountered - in no way, shape, or form do you even remotely exemplify the teachings of Jesus. But you are so blinded by hate that you cannot even see it.

I feel very sorry for you.

Please. Save your sorries. I don't need for you to understand me. I don't understand you. Am I bothered? No. Of course it's easier to point fingers and blame others for our own shortcomings. As a former addict, I know, all too well...the blame game. I'm quite reformed, you know. Prospering. Engaging. Popular. And I hardly need fake Christian, who wouldn't recognize Jesus, were he to walk in front of them, to tell me about "my walk". The hate that you see in me, is a reflection of your own. I feel sorry for you.

If you look at a wall of portraits of every President the U.S. has had, every one has been a white man, until Obama.

And you guys are trying to compare the situation to a white guy saying he voted for a guy strictly because he's white?

Really?

does ignoring the obvious racism make you feel better about yourself?

When I was in high school a popular shirt that black kids wore said 'It's A Black Thing, You Wouldn't Understand' in red, black and green colors. There was never really an issue made about it. I never saw a shirt that subsituted white for black but I'm pretty sure that would not go over the same.

Whites have been the dominant racial group in America. Therefore minority groups (and especially blacks) can wear shirts like above or make comments like Samuel Jackson and it will have a different meaning than if a white person does it. Or U.S. History is basically white history and that's why we have a Black History Month.

Each person can determine how they feel about that but I think that is the explanation for why things are the way they are.

Says the man who constantly runs around screaming racist to everyone on the board. Says the man who proclaims that White people voted for McCain because Obama was black and that they couldn't possibly have voted against him due to policies.

You, dear little coward, are the only one constantly spewing forth your hatred on this board. (well, you and webb... what a nice little pair you make)

Double standard!
