"I love the poorly educated"

People with at or below normal IQs tend to see things in black and white, particularly if they were raised Christian and/or conservative. Candidates who appeal to strong emotions -- particularly fear, distrust, anger, hate -- appeal to these guys. Candidates who can frame complex issues (like immigration for example) into simple either-or/us-vs-them memes appeal to these guys.

I'm not convinced that even education can fix this.

Me either. Sometimes I think they're hard-wired.

I'm serious as cancer. (And to be clear, when I say Trump has broken you I mean the collective you - liberals - not you personally).

He said in that speech he won the evangelicals, the highly educated and the poorly educated. Then he said he loves the poorly educated. How that line still triggers folks today is beyond me.

Because you don't hear Democrats talking sh*t about poorly educated minority voters and how easily they are manipulated by racial demagoguery because you like how they vote.

Trump's comment might be the most Christian thing he said in his life. (he didn't say it for Christian reasons but nonetheless it was showing love to the lower class of society)

You don't think he was serious when he said "I LOVE the poorly-educated", do you? I remember how he privately criticized many of his followers on Jan. 6 because he considered them dumb and low-class.

He said it to try to convince his people that he was on their side and they fell for it.

"As a mob of his supporters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday, Donald Trump was reportedly unconcerned about the destruction or insurrection taking place but instead how the violent extremists appeared “low-class”.

Donald Trump was annoyed by the violent siege on the Capitol Wednesday — which left several dead — because it looked “low class,” according to his adviser. “He doesn’t like low class things.”

Politicians tend to love anyone who votes for them. But what they say publicly and what they say behind closed doors can often be two different things.

Analogous to entertainers or athletes who publicly thank their fans then trash them when alone.

It was a typical politician speech where talks about the various groups of people he claimed to win the votes of then said he loved one of the groups. It’s beyond me how that continues to be discussed today.

We discuss him because he never left office and became a past vs. current event. As long as he's out there making noise, people will comment.

Trump has actually told the truth a few times in his life.

I try to refrain from judging anyone individually based on their education level. Obviously, there are high school dropouts who have gone on to do amazing things, and be incredibly successful.

But in GENERAL, it's not the best thing when a candidate relies on poorly educated people to maintain his or her popularity. And that is Trump's huge advantage as a candidate - those who are less educated prefer him over primary opponents, or any Democrat.

And it explains a lot about his popularity. Grifters rely on people not wising up to what they're doing.

Trump has proved the dumbing up of Americans is successful!

Not discussing him, but that particular comment. I don’t understand why it bothers people. He’s said plenty of not nice things, why are people then upset that he said he loves a group of people (and that group of people includes those from all walks of life and backgrounds) and still talking about it years later?

I jumped in when you said this: "Trump's comment might be the most Christian thing he said in his life. (he didn't say it for Christian reasons but nonetheless it was showing love to the lower class of society)"

I guess it was the first part that got me, because I never consider trump as having any religious awareness and speaking about it. I believe the remark was cold political calculation, and that unfortunately people with religious sensibilities believe him.

Clearly Trump was insulting dumb people who he fooled into supporting him.

Loving the unfortunate, or lower class of people, is a very Christian thing. The statement “I love the poorly educated” is a very Christian thing to say. It doesn’t mean the person saying it is, or has to be, a Christian. Thus my statement that he didn’t say it for Christian reasons.

Absurd.

The people in his crowds should be insulted that he insinuated they're poorly-educated, but instead they lap it up and ask for more.
