Greatest country in the world doesn't mean we are not without problems. If you are ashamed to be an American citizen that is 100% your right. I have issues with things in this country but I'm not going to say I'm not proud of being a citizen.

With a population of 3 million and only 2% being non-white, I can certainly understand that....no body illegally crossing your borders to get in either....
3 million isn't even a large city here....
 
I didn't choose my ethnicity, so no, I am not "proud" to be of mostly European background. Why would I be? Pride should only come from your accomplishments. People who are proud of the accomplishments of others because they happen to share the same ethnic make up is stupid. I am not proud or ashamed of being a man either. I had no choice in the matter and I am not added to or detracted from because of the accomplishments or failures of other men or other white people.
 
I am not ashamed of my race....I am not proud of my race....I am an individual. I don't grandeurize or demonize based on race. I don't think one race is better or worse than another.

I believe that it's the height of foolishness to do so. Because when you do, you raise evil people of your race up to acceptable levels, and you lower truly good people of other races down to unacceptable levels.

Did you come to the US from another country and choose to become a US citizen? IF not then you had no hand in being a citizen. How can we be proud of things that happened to us as an accident of birth?

You're right I have no control over where I was born. I do have a choice today where I want to live. I could choose to give up my American citizenship and become a citizen of another country if I so desire.

My being proud to be an American isn't a zero-sum game. Because I'm proud to be an American doesn't mean someone else can't be proud of their country or where they're from. I'm not suggesting it's an either/or scenario.

And I know better than to think that you are some sort of xenophobe love it or leave it kind of American. My problem is, almost anytime someone brings up being proud of being white or american or from France, they are doing it in an attempt to one up some one. If you are any student of history, then you can't JUST be proud of the good things the US has done. We have the Trail of Tears, where soldiers were ordered to bash women and children's skulls with their rifle butts instead of wasting a bullet on them if they fell and could not continue. Japanese interment camps, the My Lai massacre, the shooting of US students at Kent State Slavery, Jim Crow, and a myriad of other things that, if you are being logical should also make you ashamed of being American or white. People have done enough bad things in the name of preserving the US or any particular race that when you are don, it means nothing.

Soc, I joined this thread because someone wrote we should all be ashamed to be Americans. Well I'm not. There are plenty of things in our past and current that I am not proud of. But I'm also not going to say fvck America, it sucks, I'm leaving. If by me choosing to want to stay here and live here is saying that I think it's better than anywhere else then I'm guilty but I don't think that's the case.
