I'm against stupid ideas. The wall is a stupid idea. Border security isn't, but a wall is.
It's a lot more than that, now. It's $11.8 million in 5 days. At a rate of $2.4 million per day, like that, it will take about one year and two months to reach the funding goal of $1 billion. However, $1 billion is a small fraction of the cost of the wall. A Senate report put the estimate at $70 billion. However, even taking taking the much lower Department of Homeland Security number, it will be $22 billion, not counting maintenance. So, at $2.4 million per day, it'll take a little over a quarter century to reach the cost of the wall. Then you'd have the $750 million per year in maintenance cost to fund. If the Trumpists want to put up that money, I'm fine with it. I just don't want such wasteful use of my own tax dollars.

Obama, Clinton, Schumer and 23 other Democratic senators voted in favor of the Secure Fence Act of 2006 by a vote of 80 to 19. Now suddenly, they don't think a wall is necessary and refuse to even discuss funding the wall even though it is a tiny trickle of .125% of the Federal Budget.
If Democrats think fighting over minutia the American people believe secures them will help them win, they are bigger idiots than we have thought.

Republicans sometimes realize that, when we're talking about spending half a billion dollars on the corporation for public broadcasting, or something else they see as wasteful. But then they act like they think billions in spending are no big deal if it's for yet another aircraft carrier, or to cover money Trump promised would be paid by Mexico for a border wall, or something like that. They're not very honest people.
There's a reason the wall wasn't built before Trump, including in periods when Republicans had the House, Senate, and presidency. It didn't make sense before (even at times with much higher immigration rates), and it doesn't make sense now. The only reason you're behind it now is because of childish hyper partisan pro-Trumpism. But, obviously, for the left it is mostly about the money. Consider the general attitude of the left to the idea of the wall being paid for by others -- either Mexico or GoFundMe marks. Most on the left are just fine with that. Keep your dirty hands out of my pocket and you can build whatever monuments to Trumpism you want. If it's at no cost to those of us Americans who aren't pushing for a wall, it's fine. The money you want to take from us is the reason we object.

Also, it's not $5 billion in cost. That's just a down payment. The Department of Homeland Security estimates it will cost well over four times that much, not counting maintenance. And a Senate report put the cost at $70 billion..... again, not counting the roughly $750 million in annual maintenance. This is a sizable expense for no reason.
Trump said Mexico would pay. He should go away and figure out how to make good on his promise.
