Decrying 'illegals,' amputee veteran raises millions for border wall
(CNN)A triple amputee Air Force veteran and motivational speaker is asking the 63 million Americans who voted for President Donald Trump to chip in $80 apiece for the border wall.
The total would meet Trump's request for $5 billion to build a wall along the US southern border with Mexico, with $40 million to spare. Trump said Wednesday, amid debate over a potential government shutdown, that Mexico would indirectly pay for the wall via a trade deal and that the US military would build it.
"Even if we get half, that's half the wall. We can do this," Brian Kolfage writes on his verified GoFundMe, which had raised more $6 million from about 100,000 donors as of midafternoon Thursday.
Kolfage had the idea about a year ago but decided to move forward Sunday because of "inaction from our politicians," he told CNN via email. He is surprised by the amount of money he's been able to raise, he wrote.
"I've been receiving thousands of emails from citizens who have waited in line to become Americans and completed this process the legal way. They are so thankful for this," he wrote. "They are giving and they are from both sides of the aisle, and that's why this movement is growing so fast."
While the campaign has a goal of $1 billion, the Destin, Florida, man who lost both legs and his right hand in Iraq says $1 billion is GoFundMe's max and he's working to have it increased. The most successful GoFundMe effort to date has raised more than $22 million and counting in the last year for the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund, which provides counsel to victims of sexual abuse and harassment.

Let's do the math:
- The US has roughly 300 million citizens.
- Out of those, roughly 200 are adults.
- Out of those, roughly 100 million are Republicans.
The Gofundme has a goal of $1,000,000,000. That's $10 per donor, if everybody chips in, right?
The Gofundme-page has been forwarded on social media roughly 100,000 times, netting them roughly 7000 donors. By that ratio, 7% of people who hear of this Gofundme actually donate. That's 7 million people.
Divided by 7,000,000 that's on average $143 per donor.
On a crank-project.
Outside of an election-year.
And no mega-donor is stupid enough to attach themselves to Trump at this point.
We are now at $600,000 and 10,000 donors. $60 per donor. Far short of the $143 per donor.
And the number of donors per number of people reached by social media is constant at 7%.

A MAGAt buddy of mine proudly put a Faux affiliate 'news' item on his Facebook wall that in two days $1.5 million has been raised through GoFundMe for the border wall. Gee that's wonderful.
Lets crunch the numbers using the $5 billion figure bandied about for a completed wall.
($1.5 Million / $5 billion) x 100% = 0.03%
The MAGAts are 0.03% on their way to a wall.
To calculate the days:
(100/.03) * 2 (days)= 6,667 days
It will take 6,667 days or 18.3 years for the wall to be fully funded with GoFundMe provided the enthusiasm continues for that long.
