Georgia - 'Bama

i think 8 also.
It gives enough top teams a chance, and the unusual outlier like UCF a shot because of an undeniable stellar season.

and more would defeat the purpose of only top teams getting into the playoff

I think 8 would be a good number. It would only add one more 2 more games to the schedule of the top 2 teams.

The same purpose the rankings have always served.

If only the top teams matter, the rankings of 9 - 25 serve no purpose. If only 8, or whatever number gets in is the only thing that matters, any number higher than that serves no purpose.

I think the playoffs should stay at four teams. I understand why people want more teams in but ultimately the beauty of college football is how important each game during the regular season is.

And yes I'm bitter when writing this but college football is more important to the SEC than say the Pac 12. It's why the SEC only plays eight conference games instead of nine like the Pac 12. A cupcake is much easier than a conference foe for that extra game. The Pac 12 also has its top teams playing Friday night road games after a road game the week prior. Alabama would NEVER play a Friday game, let alone a road Friday game.

But the system isn't set up well for a team outside the Power 5 conferences to get into the playoff. If it were expanded then yes possibly. But like you said they will get dinged every time for SOS. (there's possibly a scenario where if someone like UCF or Houston went undefeated and beat an Auburn and Clemson in non conference games they could sneak in)

The AP Polls have been ranking the college football teams since 1936. Fans use it to brag. Coaches use it as a recruiting tool or to motivate the team.

The playoffs have only existed for 4 years. And guess who is the only team to make the playoffs all 4 years? Yep, my Alabama Crimson Tide!!

Also, only one poll is involved in the playoffs. The rest are just for rankings, however subjective that may be.

Coach Saban has said he agrees with the idea that every team should play 9 conference games. But until all the teams agree, it won't happen.

Apparently winning 12 of them in the regular season and 1 in a bowl game, a game where they defeated the team that beat the supposed best team in the nation, proves that subjective factors are apparently more important to the selection committee than objective factors.

Why do you consider a team going 12-0 in the regular season as sneaking in? Wouldn't doing that mean they earned their way in.

All Saban has to do is say it. It's quite apparent that having that name plays a greater role in being chosen than actual factors related to playing the game like winning a conference title and going undefeated. Just another one of those subjective factors where opinion, rather than facts, is used to justify something that using the facts would eliminate.

The playoffs are determined before bowl games. The system is set up to benefit the Power 5 conferences. UCF is in a weak conference and as such gets majorly dinged on SOS. I didn't create the system but that's what it is. You can complain until you're blue in the face but it's not changing anytime soon.

What purpose does bragging serve? It gives people like you a chance to cheer for someone who, without the subjectivity, wouldn't have had a change because they didn't meet what truly matter, the objective factors. All subjectivity does is gives a way for those deciding to do what they want and make it appear as if it's anything but playing favorites.

Strength of Schedule will always be part of the process of selection for the playoffs.

As for you wanting it based solely on wins & losses or conference championships, you are welcome to petition the selection committee. But I doubt it will change.

You cheer for a country that lasted for less than five years and lost a war to America.

Seems the bowl game of UCF vs. Auburn disproved some claims that UCF played in a weaker conference and didn't have the ability to run with the big guys. Since UCF defeated a team that beat the supposed best team in the nation, speculation about UCF not being able to compete were incorrect.

Are you OK with the system leaving out a team that did what the national champions couldn't/didn't do in more areas than one? UCF did three things Alabama didn't do. Win their conference, go undefeated, and beat Auburn. If that's not enough to look at changing how the system uses pure subjectivity when the results they want can't be justified using objective factors, then nothing will ever change it. When Alabama can't get in based on factors that can be measured and for which there is no way to argue against, they can always rely on the subjective view they'll get.

As long as subjectivity is used, Saban won't have to worry about getting in. When measurable areas can't do it for him, he can always rely on the interpretation.

UCF played one ranked team all year, #25 Memphis. The S.O.S. sucked.

You can complain all you want. The Power Five set up the system the way it is for a specific reason. You're either with the big boys or you're not and UCF is not.

Yet UCF did three things Alabama failed to do. That is fact.

Are you saying strength of schedule is the only thing that matters?
