I admit the cartridge is wonderful but the gun itself is a bad choice because it's a single action auto.

Rack and fire!!!!! That takes time . Better to have a gun that you just pull the trigger and it fires.

It's a bit like leaving no round chambered in a revolver that has no transfer bar or hammer bar.

You mean putting 5 rounds in a cylinder that holds 6 rounds??? You still fire the gun the same way for all the rounds. It's not that way with the 1911. You have to remember to flip off the safety for that first round. As i said earlier that is ok if the 1911 is the only handgun you have. But most gun owners have other guns and most of them don't have a safety.

Personally I am not a big fan of them. The trigger action is quite stiff for double action weapons, and inconvenient to have to cock it yourself for single action use. They are also kind of fat for the ammunition they use, and don't conceal as well.

No question that there are disadvantages to revolvers. But they are still the safest and simplest to operate and most reliable of all handguns. Plus i like the looks. Autos look like squirt guns.

We can spend a lot of time discussing the merits of the 1911 but it has helped win two world wars and been carried in countless other US military involvements. I carried one during my military service in the 1960's and will carry one tomorrow while at work. More modern firearms have replaced John Moses Browning's creation but not in the hearts of true firearm lovers.

I was talking about the 1911 design, but field stripping a Glock is also pretty simple. It's even easier than a 1911 design. Sounds like you have come across some dangerous morons. A Glock is very reliable, but you still DO have the clean them from time to time.
