Fatal shooting at Denver screening of The Dark Knight Rises

How the hell do you kick one of those doors in from the outside???? Those look like they are heavy, metal doors? How can that be?

He blocked it open apparently. Basically, buy a ticket, put a rock in the door. Come back at midnight... kick in the door, drop some smoke grenades and start firing.

Again, we can both bounce around all manner of scenarios that could have made it better or worse.

It is a sad statement on American culture that demands metal-detectors at a movie .. but even that could have made it better.

But what is it that metal-detectors are trying to keep out?

Guns.

How could a metal detector have made it better? The guy blocked open the back door and entered without even purchasing a ticket for this movie.

I thought those doors had alarms on them, if for no other reason than to stop people getting in for free.

I realize that you're wrong. an automatic weapon is difficult to control on full auto because of the recoil and without proper training and firing technique, is almost guaranteed to miss high and to the right after the first 3 shots.

Not the ones who were slaughtered.

They evacuated the cowards apartment complex as he told the cops he rigged his apartment to explode... he wasn't kidding. Cops are still trying to defuse the booby traps. Early reports are there was enough in there to take down the complex.

Yes, the people who are horrified at gun shootings in theaters are totally trying to take away your freedom...

It would depend on what the purpose of it was... Terrorist attacks have a point, an insane person often does not. Was he trying to make a point? To "teach" society something, or was he just insane? There is a difference. Terrorists also often have people who work with them, who have the same "point" to make. That is far more terrifying as you know that this incident is the first in a long string of incidents, rather than simply one dude working alone because he was insane.

The point of a terrorist is to spread fear. Which theoretically achieves something, I doubt that this guy went into a theater and made such a public show of shooting people for kicks and giggles. The setting, costume, time, act all scream for attention it was an inherently public act.

the green river killer was convicted of 48 deaths....he used his bare hands or an instrument to strangle his victims.

sadly, if someone wants to kill many people, they do not need a gun.

He also says he killed more than he was convicted of (BTW - He later pleaded guilty to one more, total of 49 for that nutjob)...

the Green River Killer says he killed over 80 prostitutes.

So you're admitting he was trained. Which militia group trained him?
where did you get that notion?

So where did he buy the glocks, remington bolt, and Ar-15 high capacity rifle as well as gas mask, bullet proof vest and all the booby traps? K-Mart?

Most likely an unregulated fucking gun show.[/QUOTE]would you be comfortable with having the federal government approve all sales of everything? guns, towels, and pencils?

by trying to link someone carrying or wanting to carry a gun acting like rambo, but if nobody acted like rambo, there wouldn't be a need for a gun, except for the guy with a gun you said was acting like rambo, and you continue to spin round and round and round.....so your comment was really bullshit.

Since I was quoting somebody else it is very likely I didn't put any words in your mouth.
And?

There were, apparently, nobody in that theater carrying concealed.t hey have.

Because you have yet to find one that happened in a place where somebody was carrying.

K... I didn't ask you whether you wanted my gun. Again, since I quoted somebody else it was likely I was talking to them.

Exactly what would say "carrying"? If I lived in Denver and wanted to go hunting would I be forced to store my rifle in some other place? Also, how would that not be infringing on bearing arms?

Nor do I. My only point is that I believe that the freedom and rights are worth the risk.
K. I misread your post, i have bad eyesight, but that's not an excuse.

as to "carrying"
yes, SCOTUS has ruled it's an unabridged right to do so, where we disagree is the "freedom and rights" aren't worth the risk (IMHO).
I'd venture to say many more ppl were murdered by guns then saved lives. Impossible to back up that statement.
I'm from the Balto/DC area. Used to be more then 1 murder a day in each city -lots of drug dealing, but not all of it.
I think the carnage has now shifted to Chicago.

4 reasons I can think of why guns are not healthy, and this was decades ago. Gun violence is going up, more guns are around/sold
(last December was record purchases). So there is a correlation, if not a causative linkage.

I admit to being predjudiced, i've seen too much death, too many mass murders, it's pretty much impossible to stop proliferation given SCOTUS rulings.
The consequences of proliferation cannot be ignored. How to reduce the deaths is up for debate, i'd ban them all if i could, but that aint happening.

So this is the new norm, you say there is going to be someone with a concealed that will stop a mass murder -i'll be waiting for that to happen.

Yes, he had four guns. Now do go on telling us how making guns illegal would have stopped him. If people are intent upon such killing, he could have just as easily made a home made bomb and tossed that in. That too is easy to do.

Making guns illegal just means that only criminals will have them.

From the news I have been reading, the lunatic was adept at making explosives. If this is true, then him having guns was a blessing in a twisted sort of way.

Can you imagine the carnage if he had had to rely on explosives? Had he had 4 bombs instead of 4 guns, the death toll could have easily run into the hundreds.

i thought gun violence was on the downward trend. do you have a link to back up your assertion?

I didn't assert gun violenece en toto was rising, i said "the carnage has shifted to Chicago" - Chicago is having gang wars, but the killings aren't limited to gang members. I mentioned DC/Balto, because i'm from there, and it was over a murder a day back in the 90's. I'm in Florida for over 10 years, don't know the situation there anymore, don't wanna know.

It( gun deaths) goes up and down in cycles -I also said last December was the month for record gun sales. not gun violence.

I just hate the fucking things, any asshole can kill with a gun, whereas other weapons take years to master.
Sorry, for the confusion, and i admit to being biased.

Reports keep going back and forth as to whether or not he had a bomb at the theater. Supposedly (as of right now) the police have a bomb that failed to explode at the theater. Some eyewitnesses say they heard a bomb go off... though from listening to them they may have seen the guy throw the tear gas/smoke grenade (story keeps going back and forth on this as well) coupled with the shot gun blast (that he did and did not have according to the ever changing story)

they said it may take days to unrig his apartment. He booby trapped the hell out of it with explosives. At least he told the cops about the booby traps, cause they think it could have taken out the entire complex.

This coward was seriously deranged.

From what I have read, his apt is boobytrapped to the hilt. That is more what I was referring to.

I always end up wondering how someone gets the know-how to do something like that. I read that it was very sophisticated.
