I am not concerned about our government using tanks and mortars against us, because 'we the people' ARE the government.
Uh huh. Were we at Kent State?
I am not concerned about our government using tanks and mortars against us, because 'we the people' ARE the government.
For plenty of reasons. One, it's hyperbolic in the extreme. Two, from where would someone acquire a nuclear weapon? Three, we signed Arms Control treaties limiting such things. Those treaties require the same number of votes to pass as an amendment and also are held in the same standard as an amendment (see Article 6). Four, who would sell them to a civilian in the first place, even if they were still being made today (they're not)? Five, they have no military utility and are therefore not protected by the 2A.
Are those enough reasons why it's a ridiculous and stupid argument?
let's not put words in my mouth. I have ALWAYS said that any weapon that the government would/could use against us, we should have. there is a huge difference between what you say I said and what i've actually said.I agree with you, but there are some like STY who argue that we should have the same weapons as the military.

who i disagree with on this one
no citizen 'needs' WMDs unless they plotting terrorism or the overthrow of the government
unfortunately, wmds are just too easy to make these days - this has the unfortunate effect of causing more restrictions on citizen's freedoms by our government
FromWhence would such items be acquired?
God I hate these stupid kinds of suppositions.
Really? And how might you make one?
from a few simple household ingredients that i am not about to publish (i took chemistry in college and remember enough to make a variety of wmds) or from your local friendly home depot or other hardware store...
some short term, some long term, some that go boom and some that make toxic gases among other things
why do you need to know? are you from dhs?
Publishing information isn't a crime, especially on the internet. My point was that creation of such WMDs is not easy nor practical
publishing it may not be a crime, creating wmds is easier than you might think. there is already plenty published on the net, it just requires motivation and a lot of care and patience...oh and enough money for remote controls
we live in interesting times, but then we have always been at the mercy of our fellow denizens of this world
You've yet to say how....so I'm going to imagine that it isn't actually easy.
ok, you want an easy one, this one is so easy that it kills people (usually housewives) by accident each year, mix bleach and ammonia - some fool thinks that it will make a great cleaning agent so try it and see what you get, besides dead that is
Yeah, that's chlorine gas. Hardly a 'WMD'. Funny enough my dad made the same mistake when I was a child and almost had to go to the hospital. To this day he maintains that it's a legit cleaning method.
given the 'citizens united' decision by scotus, it would appear that the u s government is for sale if not already bought
Yes, the Waco siege was handled poorly in some respects, a fact that many government officials have acknowledged. That was twenty years ago. Has the government used tanks against American citizens since the Waco siege?
By unions!
unions have the least amount of power that they have had for decades
how about the koch brothers or walmart or other big repug donors
follow the money and look at who contributes the most

George Soros, and corporations give to both parties, to not would be suicide.
