Can Black Children Be Friends With White People?

Maybe I'm naive or idealistic but what this guy did is exactly how change happens to me.

There are obviously some really bad people in this country but there are also people who have wrong views but aren't bad people. Those are the types of people that can be reached and hearts and minds changed.

The optimist in me will keep working for that

The realist, pragmatist, and long-time veteran of these discussions tells me that racists aren't worth the effort. Fuck em'.

You should have these discussions with them, I won't.

I hate them with a hate that is not easily covered up, nor is it conducive to civil conversation.

Like I said in the Edit (sorry if I didn't post it before you responded) you don't have to do anything. I'm speaking from a bigger perspective as to how change hopefully occurs.

Change occurs when racist, such as yourself and the rest of the right on this board, are called out.

Bringing racism to light will destroy it.

This has more meaning :

Racist (definition):

Anyone competing in a race. E.g., NASCAR, Formula 1, downhill skiing, one running for political office, the Kentucky Derby, etc.

One who drinks coffee is not a racist.

Hey, you're the one that quoted the professor and then said "The left needs to defend, not attack, multiethnic democracy".
You're the one making it a left/right thing. And once again, you're trying to apply one person's statement or opinion to ALL of those on the Left as if everyone on the Left agrees with it. Not sure if this is intentional or an oversight but you should stop doing it. It weakens any point you're trying to make.

Wacko is famous for using false dichotomies to start debates.

How many of those white friends kneeled along with the Black ones in the NFL?

If the friendships were so real, everyone of those players would have kneeled in support of the Black players.

Not many did.

I'm not saying, or advocating that Blacks can't be friends with whites, but when it comes to trust, real trust, you will see who your friends really are.

Well a wise man once said good people can disagree. It’s pretty narrow minded and unimaginative not to mention down right boring to associate only with people who share your point of view.

A LOT of whites need to change or get out of our political and judicial process.

I wish Blacks were addressed and treated as "some" Blacks by whites.

You do? Wouldn’t you rather it be like Latin America where you have such a melange of color that it becomes a non issue?

I was making my point regarding sports and how it brings people together and life long friends, that's not always true. Again, my argument is more about trust than friendships. By the time we die, we may be lucky to have a few good friends that we can really trust.

The OP doesn't trust whites and he has every reason not to. I have an ex sister in law who is white as the driven snow. She hates Blacks, teaches my nephews racist shit on daily. She called me a nigga to my face in my own home, so forgive me if I don't automatically trust all white people. And that's what the author of the article is talking about.

Being friends is one thing, trusting is another.

And yes, I'd expect my friends to risk their jobs for a cause they believe in. The very fact that we have to risk our jobs for speaking out against white racism is the reason for the non trust in the first place. If it's my real true ride or die friend, and I believe in their cause, I'd risk my job for them as well.

Well the same wise man who said “good people can disagree” also said “trust but verify” :)

The NFL is also a work place. People's best friends aren't necessarily their co-workers. I mean I am generally friends with many people I work with but they aren't necessarily my best friends in life.

which is irrelevant in regards to my low standards for friendship
