Bible Banned as a Dirty Book in Utah

Mein Kampf is historically important. Don't remember looking for it in my high school's library but did look for and found it in the Town library, being curious from reading about Hitler in history class. It did not tempt me to be a Nazi.

I don't think Mein Kampf is an important piece of world literature I think it's the poorly written disturbed product of one man's mind, and I don't think it has bred generations of scholarly research by professors of literature.

The canonical texts I have mentioned have influenced the lives of billions of people, have been the basis of millennia of Asian and European civilizations, and have been studied for centuries by generations of university scholars.

apparently the bible is a modern day record of real estate deeds in the middle east.

What fundamentally is so foolish about this is the complete absence of lurid appeal in those "offending" Bible passages. The woman who started it probably has one or more bibles in plain view in her house. The Bible is the most popular book in the Western world. In the most morally policed periods of the nation's history everyone was expected to read the bible. Removing it from schools as dangerous to young minds serves one purpose: it reveals our current book banners for the morally and intellectually bankrupt crazies they've been from the start.

it does have incest stories.

what about separation of church and state?

What's really discouraging about this forum is that a thread about the Bible keeps traction here,
while what one might think are more interesting topics get nary a response.

Even though 81% of Americans believing in God is a new low, according to Google,
having a population of 19% rational people still doesn't bode very well for our prospects.

14% of Chinese people believe in God, by the way.
Yup. We're totally fucked.

Whoever said Mein Kampf claims a place in world literature, or is valued in any way for the quality of the writing. The point was about books of historical importance and it is one of them.

My post spoke to historically important world literature, and I thought you were responding to my point.

Mien Kampf is indeed a well known racist diatribe written by an criminal mind, and is probably read by almost nobody in the 21st century. . To me, I'm not sure that's enough reason to include it in a highschool library.

Belief in a creator god is generally the province of the Abrahamic religions, though you could throw Hinduism as well.

China practices state atheism and religious thought and participation has been oppressed to one degree or other for 70 years

I did respond to your post, which said:

"I don't think Mein Kampf or the Turner Diaries should be in high school libraries."

In your third paragraph you did say the bible was important as world literature, a qualification you hadn't made for Hitler's book which never has been regarded as 'literature."
