Bible Banned as a Dirty Book in Utah

I don't see why the Bible, the Qur'an, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Dao de Jing, the Dhammapada can't be kept in a high school or public college library. They are historically important works of literature and prose. I would just make sure they are all equally available.

It's tit for tat. Fair's fair.

vicious cycle

a sequence of reciprocal cause and effect in which two or more elements intensify and aggravate each other, leading inexorably to a worsening of the situation.
"debtors were caught in a vicious circle: they could not be freed until they had paid their debt, and were not able to pay their debt as long as they were in prison"

"Viscous" applies to liquids.

Correct. Hence painfully slow cycle like a molasses on a wall.

All the canonical texts of the major world religions I have read I got for free from the public library.

It would be a shame if a law forced me to purchase them from a private publisher, because I probably wouldn't drop the money on it.

Hmmmm... this is interesting. I teach at a public high school. I've been doing that for almost 20 years. There are no religious classes there, and I've never seen a bible even tucked under a student's arm. I've never specifically looked for a bible in the media center, but I'll look Monday and I'll bet a thousand bucks I won't find one. This doesn't bother me in the least. Pretty sure we're not graduating the next pope, or the next Martin Luther, but these kids can do some mean calculus.

Why wouldn't a Bible be in the library? Same for the Quran, Torah, Tibetan Book of the Dead, etc? Maybe only college libraries because of all the sex and violence in the Bible?

It’s banned in some places due to MAGA censorship rules.

That's ok...the kids have their own copy if they need one....(I never had a need for a Bible in any of my classes, as a student or a teacher...Did you?)

You never had a need for any book in your classes that was not specifically required by your teacher. Does that mean schools should not have libraries?

How about objective standards that are set to prevent banning of viewpoints or ideology, but bans violence and porn.

Who decides that if not the citizens? Isn't that the purpose of a constitution? To prevent limitations on Free Speech, Freedom of Religion, etc? However, we're not talking about the rights of citizens, but the teaching of minors. Do you support lowering the age of voting to 16? I don't. If it was up to me, I'd raise the age of everything to 25 but would settle for 21.

That's a tough job, but I am very respectful of anyone who would take that job on. Because there are a lot of better paying jobs out there, and it takes people
that are committed to educating our kids to make all kinds of personal sacrifices to be teachers.

Thanks Man!

And, thanks for sharing your comments on this as well, as I have the same attitude about this as you.

But, I would like to ask you a question if that's OK! Because it requires a professional in the business to answer it.

Do you think a lot of the LGBTQ concerns are being blown out of proportion. I mean, are LGBTQ teachers really GROOMING our children to be LGBTQ people, and do you think kids are really being hammered into reading LGBTQ books etc.

Because I asked a couple of my Grand Kids that are still in High School about this, and they told me they didn't see anything like that in their school- one of the largest High Schools here in Texas.

Thanks in advance for your response!

And enjoy your summer vacation!

Oh cry more! Those books won't bite you. I promise.

I’ve felt this way for years. Let the kids get out and work a bit and pay a few taxes before turning them loose at the ballot box.

Age is an arbitrary thing. Who gets to decide? There are many dumb and smart people of all ages. We might as well have an IQ test requirement like Dutch Uncle has always advocated.

The maturity of human beings is pretty well documented. Sure, individuals vary a bit, but it still follows a curve....all ending in death. :)

While the JPP demographic skews toward over 50, if not over 60, note that the Trumpers all follow a much narrower demographic: elderly, angry, bitter Euro-American males.

A merit based system would be good. If a person passes specific education, intelligence and maturity tests, then they can be granted greater responsibilities. The main problem is fairness...something our present level of tech and society clearly lacks.

Children are citizens, albeit limited citizens.

I think 18 should be the age for every age limited thing. Kids mature faster, unless adults hold them back.

The current system in Florida ends up with books being banned with just one parent complaint. A Florida paper looked into it and there is a very small of active parents complaining, the one who is responsible for the majority of banned books attends fascist rallies.

They're not voting citizens.

Okay, so handgun and AK-47s for 18 year olds.

Disagreed. Florida law and Republican leadership did the ban. Putting it all on one parent is silly.
