Beware Trump's Impending War in Syria

The administration, in keeping with Obama and Bush administration policy, is still relying on the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) as legal justification for the use of force in Syria. But as Slate’s Joshua Keating has pointed out, the 2001 AUMF “specifically applied to the perpetrators of 9/11 (al-Qaida) and those that harbored them (the then-Taliban-controlled government of Afghanistan).” There is nothing in the language of the AUMF that authorizes military operations in Syria.
Al-Qaeda Consolidates Its Front Groups In Syria
http://www.globalresearch.ca/al-qaeda-consolidates-its-front-groups-in-syria/5571067
..... the plan for now is to keep Ahrar al-Sham as a “moderate” front group for al-Qaeda while eliminating all other “moderate” forces on the ground. Parts of Ahrar al-Sham take part in the Turkish “Euphrates Shield” operation against the Islamic State while al-Qaeda in Syria is no longer openly supported by the Turkish state.

The ruse of the claimed fight between Ahrar and al-Qaeda is used to uphold a distinction between these groups even when hardly any exists. Ahrar al-Sham was, like al-Qaeda in Syria, founded by a senior member of al-Qaeda central under command of the al-Qaeda’s central leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

And once again, an administration is embarking on a military intervention in the absence of virtually any debate. Micah Zenko of the Council on Foreign Relations tweeted that he found it “Truly amazing that nobody in DC cares about the US troop increase and mission expansion in Syria.”
CFR complaining about escalation! what a joke!
but it's not an escalation of MISSION -that exists -and is virtually the same continuum from Obama

Rescue workers find 101 bodies in Mosul building destroyed in alleged U.S.-led strike

IRBIL, Iraq — Rescue workers said Sunday they had finished extracting more than 100 bodies from the ruins of a house in Mosul where the U.S.-led coalition is alleged to have carried out an airstrike.*

The remains of 101 people had been recovered from the rubble by the end of the day, said Col. Safaa Saadi, a civil defense official on the scene. Families may have also removed “a few” bodies from the wrecked building themselves without registering them, he said.*

The civil defense teams are still working to clear other houses in the decimated neighborhood, where residents say some families were wiped out during a heavy bombardment involving coalition airstrikes and artillery as Iraqi forces advanced.*

The U.S.-led coalition has acknowledged that it carried out an airstrike against Islamic State fighters at the location corresponding to the allegations of civilian casualties, but it is still investigating the incident. The militants positioned snipers on rooftops and forced civilians to stay in the area as they battled advancing forces, residents said.*

Local officials have accused both the coalition and the Iraqi forces they are backing of acting with recklessness as they advance on the western side of the city, which is densely inhabited. Police forces have been using heavy artillery, and accusations of civilian casualties in U.S.-strikes since President Trump took office have raised questions about whether the new administration is fulfilling his pledge to ramp up the campaign against the Islamic State at the expense of civilians.*

“We request that when they do an airstrike they presume that there are civilians in these houses,” said Hussam al-Abar, a provincial council member. “They can’t just drop a half-ton bomb to kill a sniper when there may be a family inside.”

funny....we went eight years without hitting a single civilian.....now it starts up again.......why can't Republican led armies aim as well as Demmycrat led armies?........

Al Qaeda quietly gaining territory in Syria amid ISIS fight
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/mar/23/al-qaeda-quietly-gaining-territory-syria-amid-isis/
Al Qaeda’s affiliates in Syria have begun gaining ground in the central part of the country, taking advantage of the regime’s increased focus on the ongoing fight against Islamic State in northern Syria.

Fighters from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, a faction of the former Syrian al Qaeda cell now known as Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, have overrun government forces in the central Syrian cities of Qomhana and Ma’an, 30 miles south of anti-government stronghold of Idlib, according to local reports.

The attacks come as forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad has begun diverting his forces from battling rebel fighters in central Syria to territory held by Islamic State, or ISIS or ISIL. The ensuing vacuum has allowed al Qaeda-affiliated groups to push into rebel-held territory near Idlib and Hama.

It remains unclear how far the group’s Syrian cells will push unchecked by Damascus into rebel territory. But those efforts in Syria fall in line with al Qaeda’s recent resurgence in Yemen, west Africa, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Of course it is my business. The aftermath of Syria and Libya was a huge migrant crisis, did they head to the US or Europe, you arrogant twat? Fuck you with pink ribbons and a cherry on top!!

Sent from Lenovo K6 Note
Libya is a mini Syria,,you have factional rule(many governments in Libya supported by different factions) ISIS infestation, and weapons flow from Syria and Libya throughout the mid-east and all of Africa.

The other parallel is the Russians in Syria are the dominate power -while they are going to be in Libya
making alliances with Gen. Hiftar in the east.

Trump Is Dragging Us Into Another War... And No One Is Talking About It
While Americans have been focused on the ACA and Trump’s ties to Russia, Trump has been busy expanding the American troop presence inside Syria.

Without any official notification, Trump sent 500 new American troops into Syria, ostensibly to take part in the upcoming assault on the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa. News reports suggest this deployment may just be the tip of the iceberg, with some saying that the plan is for hundreds more American troops to be added to the fight in the coming weeks. No one actually knows how many troops are inside Syria now, because the administration has largely tried to keep the build-up a secret.

Trump’s War on Terror Has Quickly Become as Barbaric and Savage as He Promised

From the start of his presidency, Donald Trump’s “war on terror” has entailed the seemingly indiscriminate slaughter of innocent people in the name of killing terrorists. In other words, Trump has escalated the 16-year-old core premise of America’s foreign policy — that it has the right to bomb any country in the world where people it*regards as terrorists*are found — and in doing so, has fulfilled the warped*campaign pledges he repeatedly expressed.

The most recent atrocity was the killing of as many as 200 Iraqi civilians from U.S. airstrikes this week in Mosul. That was preceded a few days earlier by the killing of dozens of Syrian civilians*in*Raqqa province when the U.S. targeted a school where people had taken refuge, which itself was preceded a week earlier by the U.S. destruction of a mosque near Aleppo*that also killed dozens. And one of Trump’s first military actions was what can only be described as a massacre carried out by Navy SEALs, in which 30 Yemenis were killed; among the children killed was an 8-year-old American girl (whose 16-year-old American brother was killed by a drone under Obama).

In sum: Although precise numbers are difficult to obtain, there seems little question that the number of civilians being killed by the U.S. in Iraq and Syria — already quite high under Obama — has increased precipitously during*the first two months of the Trump administration. Data compiled by the site Airwars tells the story: The number of civilians killed in Syria and Iraq began increasing in October under Obama but has now skyrocketed in March under Trump.

What’s particularly notable is that the number of airstrikes actually decreased in March (with a week left), even as civilian deaths rose — strongly suggesting that the U.S. military has become even more reckless about civilian deaths under Trump*than it was*under Obama:

airstrikes1-1490534890.png

This*escalation of*bombing and civilian deaths, combined with the deployment by Trump of 500 ground troops into Syria beyond the troops Obama already deployed*there, has received remarkably little media attention. This is in part due to the standard indifference in U.S. discourse to U.S. killing of civilians compared to the language used when its enemies kill people (compare the very muted and euphemistic tones used to report on Trump’s escalations in Iraq and Syria*to the frequent invocation of genocide and war crimes to denounce Russian killing of Syrian civilians). And part of this lack of media attention*is due to the Democrats’ ongoing hunt for*Russian infiltration of Washington, which leaves little room for other matters.

But what is becoming clear is that Trump is attempting to liberate the U.S. military from the minimal constraints it observed in order to avoid massive civilian casualties. And this should surprise nobody: Trump explicitly and repeatedly vowed to do exactly this during the campaign.

... just don't act surprised when the horror hits you.

Wag the dog...

The US-led coalition against the Islamic State group said Saturday that it struck a location in west Mosul where civilians were reportedly killed by aerial bombing.

"An initial review of strike data... indicates that, at the request of the Iraqi security forces, the coalition struck (IS) fighters and equipment, March 17, in west Mosul at the location corresponding to allegations of civilian casualties," it said in a statement.

Iraqi officials and witnesses say that strikes in west Mosul have killed dozens of people in recent days, but the number of victims could not be independently confirmed, and the toll from the specific strike referenced by the coalition was unclear.

It said at the beginning of this month that "it is more likely than not, at least 220 civilians have been unintentionally killed by coalition strikes", while other incidents were still under investigation.

The US has been bombing IS in Iraq since August 2014, and international strikes against the jihadists have played a major role in helping the country's forces push them back.

The coalition has also carried out strikes against IS in Syria.

Iraqi aircraft have also been bombing the jihadists, but have not released figures on estimated civilian casualties from strikes they have carried out.

IS overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in 2014, but Iraqi forces have since regained much of the territory they lost.

They launched the operation to recapture Mosul in October, recapturing the city's east before setting their sights on the smaller but more densely populated west.

After months of watching the most embarrassing, lying, and bumbling administration in history, the world is keenly aware that no matter how vehemently Trump and his idiot supporters claim something true or untrue .. it has no bearing on facts.

The warning of beware of Trump in Syria was not meant for his idiot supporters. They are free to live in whatever alternative universe they choose.

But Trump has raised the stakes in Syria considerably by ramping up US forces in the midst of warring factions on all sides. The highly toxic, multi-fronted battlefield includes combat tested Kurdish militias, Syrian army troops, anti-regime fighters, and Russian, Iranian, and Turkish forces. (1)

Does this bumbling administration have the intelligence to navigate this dangerous terrain without dragging the US into a much wider war?

The potential for disaster has been raised exponentially.

What is the endgame?

Stay tuned.

It's his ace in the hole distraction, for when the intelligence committee uncovers the depth of his Russian collusion.
Mark my words...

the only shread of accuracy in this ridiculous thread is what I mentioned before-inserting US personnel in between the Syrian Kurds and the Turks.. That could lead to deaths.
But this idea of a political settlement either by Russia or the actors and Russia isn't going to happen until the war exhausts itself out. and there is no end in sight even with degrading ISIS back into a lethal insurgency,,i.e.no "endgame" and surely none directed by Washington

Trying to keep the Kurds and Turks from killing each other..well we'll see.
But that's the ONLY thing that has changed by Trump - this idea of "Trump's Impending War in Syria" is pure fallacy

U.S. forces in Syria try to keep warring allies apart
https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...724d48f5666_story.html?utm_term=.98ea1863bb79
In recent days, the United States has been mediating between rival Kurdish factions in Iraq, both of them indirectly allied to the United States in the fight against the Islamic State, after clashes erupted around the northwestern town of Snune, freed from the Islamic State more than two years ago.

Manbij is the first instance, however, in which U.S. troops have become directly involved in keeping rival factions apart. The Pentagon has described their mission as one to “reassure and deter” local parties from attacking one another, a new role for the U.S. military in the Islamic State war, and one that could set a trend for the remaining cities to be conquered.

The deployment is “fraught with risk,” said Robert Ford, who served as the Obama administration’s last ambassador to Syria until 2014. He is now with the Washington-based Middle East Institute and teaches at Yale University.

“That’s not a small policy change. It is a huge policy change,” he said. “We have never in our Syrian policy ever put U.S. personnel in between warring Syrian factions or to maintain a local cease-fire.”

The deployment does not appear to signal a departure from the Obama administration’s policy of relying on Syrian Kurds and their Arab allies to fight the Islamic State in Syria, he said. The Trump administration has not announced the result of a review of the Obama administration’s policy for fighting the Islamic State, but U.S. officials have indicated that although it may involve more U.S. troops, it won’t diverge significantly from the original plan to rely on a force dominated by Syrian Kurds to continue the fight against the militants in Syria.

There is no doubt that he will escalate in Syria...
The timing will indicate why...
escalate WHAT you moron..do you call an increase of 2k troops "escalation"?
Did you call Obama's insertion of 5K into Iraq/Syria the same?

There is no needs for escalation. there are no shortages of "boots" already.
US Air & coalition boots are kicking ISIS asses
