Again, the government over regulated the oil industry, making it cheaper to buy oil from who will undoubtedly become our enemies, depending on the type of war fought. Since jets, ships, trucks, tanks and the factories that make them all run on petroleum products we are screwed if we get involved in a protracted conflict.
Go back and read the post you responded to. I stated we 'did it to ourselves' with regards to a lack of oil. You responded by saying 'you are making no sense, we did it to ourselves with regard to oil'
You told me I made no sense and then wrote an extended version of what I said.
Your question on cars has nothing to do with my point, but in the interest of being polite I would make the car in Tennessee since it has the higher profit margin. The reason why the margin is larger is undoubtedly that Tennessee is a right-to-work state and has lower taxes and less regulation than Michigan.
I brought up the car question to show WHY we outsource certain production.
For the same reasons you would build the car in TN. It is cheaper to produce. Whether it be due to lower labor costs, friendly laws etc... doesn't matter. It is cheaper to produce the same quality of the same car. This has TWO major benefits.
1) The profit margin on the car in TN is 50% vs. 20% on the car in Michigan. So the company makes more money which in turn goes to employees, shareholders or is reinvested into growing the company.
2) Even though the company is making the same DOLLAR amount (and higher profit margin) on the car in TN, their car is 50% less expensive for consumers. Thus, MORE consumers are going to be able to afford the cars.
This same theory holds true to outsourcing manufacturing overseas. As long as we are not sacrificing quality of the end product, it makes sense to produce it by whomever can do so at the least expense. It makes products more affordable and thus you have consumers who are able to by more luxury items.
Without outsourcing we would not see the market penetration we do in cars per household, TVs per household, cell phones per household etc... as those goods would be far more expensive.
