American made?

That's a good question, but not an easy one to answer. Obviously our trade deficit is such that it is effecting our economy adversely. By loosing our manufacturing base we put ourselves vulnerable in a war if our enemies, or those they had treaties with, are our suppliers.

I disagree. Boeing is here. Lockheed is here. We produce steel here. The technology is here.

we have the military might to easily last long enough against any foreign threat to rebuild whatever else we might need. Our main weakness is oil.... and we did that to ourselves, it was not due to globalization.

When you look at production....

If you had two options:

1) make a car in Tennessee for $10,000 that could be sold for $15,000
2) make a car in Detroit for $25,000 that could be sold for $30,000

Assuming quality/brand/style of car was identical... which would you do and why?

You're not making sense. We "did" the oil problem to ourselves by over taxing and over-regulating oil drilling. This caused the overseas markets to be the cheapest source of oil, hence "globalization". We did the exact same thing with steel and machinery. Yes, we have oil, steel, and many other basic resources here, along with some manufacturing, but not enough to support a major war effort alone.

While regulation (predominantly environmental) did indeed curb our production domestically, that is not globalization. Other countries were already producing oil as well. All we did was shut down our own supply.... which resulted not from business voluntarily shipping jobs overseas, but by the government refusing to allow more drilling here. There is a difference.

Again, we make what we need for weapons HERE in the US for the most part. Unless you care to tell us what it is that we don't make? We have more than enough to sustain any attacks on the US here should others turn on us... There is no other military in the world that could invade the US. As for a war overseas, well, if we felt we couldn't produce enough, we wouldn't have to enter said war.

Also, answer the question about the cars if you would.

there is no justification dickwad. i don't have to justify my purchase of anything to YOU. you seem to claim its patriotic to buy american, well...i just showed you it CAN be patriotic to buy a toyota, then you weasel out of it by claiming....well....the profits don't stay in america....then i showed you that was bullshit...now its...well "more profits" stay in america with GM....

toyota provides jobs to US workers and you want that to end. pity. its xenophobic to claim your nation's product is superior solely based on the fact it comes from your nation, its xenophobic to demand people buy only products from your country.

I didn't say I want it to end, and I am not telling you to buy G.M. There are plenty of assholes who are goning to buy jap-crap, might as well be some american wages derived. However, you do have a choice.

Of course he isn't. He's nothing more than a fool who hates America.

So is this a real truck or a scrod truck?

It is a 1988 G.M. 3500 2WD with a Grumman aluminum utility body. I keep it on Nantucket since I do most of my work there. I average 1000 miles a year.
What is a scrod truck?

Again, the government over regulated the oil industry, making it cheaper to buy oil from who will undoubtedly become our enemies, depending on the type of war fought. Since jets, ships, trucks, tanks and the factories that make them all run on petroleum products we are screwed if we get involved in a protracted conflict.

Your question on cars has nothing to do with my point, but in the interest of being polite I would make the car in Tennessee since it has the higher profit margin. The reason why the margin is larger is undoubtedly that Tennessee is a right-to-work state and has lower taxes and less regulation than Michigan.

A scrod is a small cod and "sctruck" is too hard to say so Cape Cod fisherman call trucks like the Chevy S-10 scrod trucks.

Go back and read the post you responded to. I stated we 'did it to ourselves' with regards to a lack of oil. You responded by saying 'you are making no sense, we did it to ourselves with regard to oil'

You told me I made no sense and then wrote an extended version of what I said.

I brought up the car question to show WHY we outsource certain production.

For the same reasons you would build the car in TN. It is cheaper to produce. Whether it be due to lower labor costs, friendly laws etc... doesn't matter. It is cheaper to produce the same quality of the same car. This has TWO major benefits.

1) The profit margin on the car in TN is 50% vs. 20% on the car in Michigan. So the company makes more money which in turn goes to employees, shareholders or is reinvested into growing the company.

2) Even though the company is making the same DOLLAR amount (and higher profit margin) on the car in TN, their car is 50% less expensive for consumers. Thus, MORE consumers are going to be able to afford the cars.

This same theory holds true to outsourcing manufacturing overseas. As long as we are not sacrificing quality of the end product, it makes sense to produce it by whomever can do so at the least expense. It makes products more affordable and thus you have consumers who are able to by more luxury items.

Without outsourcing we would not see the market penetration we do in cars per household, TVs per household, cell phones per household etc... as those goods would be far more expensive.

No, what I said was that I agree that we did it to ourselves with respect to oils, and we did the exact same thing with respect to manufacturing: too much taxes and regulation.

I agree that the product should be made where the manufacturer can make the most profit. What you don't seem to grasp is that the reason why it is cheaper to make something far away from the US then ship it a long distance to the consumer. Yes, labor costs are part of it, but so are taxes and regulation.

Dune I thought you were watermark or grind. Even those tard college students aren't as retarded as you. Public high school right?

It's hardly worth owning a car if you only do 1000 miles a year! One of the reasons I no longer own a car is that for many years I was easily clearing 100,000 miles a year. Just imagine how much shite that put into the atmosphere!
Life is easy without a car.

How many Cape Cod fisherman do you know, and how do you know them?
I had a good friend that grew up in Falmouth, and my family still has a vacation house there. His brother was a fisherman. The dude got so drunk one night while out to sea he fell overboard and no one knew he was missing until breakfast the next morning. :(

Dude he parks it on the island and saves the ferry expense when he commutes to work. :palm:
