That's funny considering that 3 of the 4 NFL teams that made it to the end of the playoffs, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia all were subsidized in building the stadiums and community anchors and all benefitted from doing so.
That's also funny because nearly half the pro sports teams are subsidized by the cities and communities they exist in .. including such hot beds of liberalism like Texas, Georgia, and Utah.
Gwinnett stadium backers follow Texas’ lead
The folks in Frisco, Texas, have been awfully busy the past few years.
After hearing a new mall that transformed the community into a commercial powerhouse might not survive without more shoppers, city leaders set out on a plan to transform the city into a center of sports tourism.
They built a bicycle racing venue. Then a baseball stadium. A hockey arena. A convention center. A soccer stadium. Hotel occupancy has exploded, along with taxes on room rentals, said James Gandy, president of the Frisco Economic Development Corp. Sales tax collections also have increased.
It’s a model Gwinnett County (Georgia) leaders frequently point to when they argue their new 10,000-seat baseball stadium will catalyze development around the Buford Drive site near Lawrencville, more than making up for the $64 million cost, including the cost of the land. The county is covering $31 million of the cost in cash.

frisco LOL, the community built around sports center hopefuls.
You'd think that Arlington TX would have learned it's lesson with GWBush and the ballpark in Arlington. The residents got shafted and Bush still owes them 7 million dollars, yet they went ahead and forced more of their fellow citizens to give up their homes to build and transfer ownership of the biggest football stadium in the country over to jerry jones in the hopes that they'll make good tax revenue off of it. At least they got the Superbowl coming soon, but thats about all the benefit they will get from it. traffic right now is a nightmare and the stadium isn't even open yet. I can't wait for all the complaining they'll get when that stadium opens.
