A Rivian EV owner was in a fender bender. The repair bill was $42,000.

I remember years ago agreeing to help someone repair the water pump on a Ferrari. Unbolt the AC compressor and move it out of the way, then the alternator, then the power steering pump, then remove the valve covers, then pull the pump out, after which you have to grind and collapse the rear bearing in this tunnel-like housing because you can't pull it with any kind of bearing puller...

At least it's easier on a Subaru. You pull the serpentine belt, undo the nuts holding the pump on and the lower radiator hose, and replace it. Done. Same on a Ford F-150 5.4 3v, but you don't have to pull any radiator hoses. You do have to remove the fan though.

When my car breaks down it doesn't cost 42,000 to repair so I don't think they are cheaper.

And they certainly aren't cheaper in the dealership.

And waiting an hour for it to recharge isn't cool, it makes you look like an idiot.

And many problems a traditional car breaks down from can be fixed on the road, an EV can't unless you are towing a 1 ton battery behind you.

You are nothing but lies.

Towing a 1 ton battery does not fix any car. Most models of Tesla cannot tow anything.

I had to work on my Mom's Kia Soul today. That was a joy. I loved every minute of it.

I miss the old days when you could open the hood and literally sit in the engine compartment while you were working on the car, with every part visible and accessible.

There are quite a few people like you that feel that way. FADEC engines aren't so bad though. You don't have to crawl in there and work on the car nearly as often as you used to!
I can still sit on the engine bay of my truck to work on the engine on my Ford F150. It's a FADEC engine with all the sensors and everything too. No carburetor or distributor. It's MPFI. No high tension wires. It's low voltage ignition.

Once you take off (easily removed) the baffle, induction plenum, and decorative plastic, everything's visible. That takes a grand total of about 5 minutes to do.

About the same as any other new car.

Wash it, maintain the tires and brakes as needed.

Wups. Tesla has a recall on it's brakes!

Did you know that most gasoline cars are not Ferraris? Special pleading fallacy.

A Ferrari costs nearly $20,000 a year in maintenance (if you drive it regularly). You have to pull the engine to change the oil!

Nordy, what you miss is the fact there are millions of vehicle owners that LOVE the mechanics, the quirks, and the wonderful sounds that come from an ICE vehicle. I don't care if you want to transport yourself in a golf cart, what does piss me off is when the government tells me I have to drive a golf cart.

That is not the subject. The ICEs will still exist. They will not be rounded up. You will be able to drive ICEs as long as you are alive. You are crying about something not real.

It also pisses me off that I have to buy Nordy's golf cart.
That's subsidies and tax breaks, Nordy. That's communism. Something YOU are proud of with the EV! :fu:

When you have to lie to make your point, you know you've lost.
Inversion fallacy. You are describing yourself again.
People are buying EVs in record numbers.
Blatant lie.
You can't deny that and there's nothing you can do about it so deal with it and STFU, bitch.
I already drive gasoline and diesel vehicles. I don't have to deal with the inconveniences and higher costs of an EV.
But I do love the fact that the popularity of EVs are making you MAGA morons so triggered and butthurt.
MAGA isn't a person nor a moron. It has no butt. It can't be 'triggered'. You are describing yourself. Inversion fallacy.
It pleases me.
You like hate. You like tyranny. Of course it pleases you.

Strange that people who actually drive EVs are being informed of what it is like by people who hate them.
Apparently you are unaware that a lot of people that got into the EV fad got rid of them and went back to gasoline cars.
No, we do not wait long times for charging.
Yes you do. You cannot drive the car while it is charging.
It is done at night with about 10 seconds of time required.
Look, prick...a lot of people do NOT HAVE GARAGES. You cannot drive your car while it is charging.
Yeah, that is a hell of a lot more convenient than looking for a gas station and pumping the time gas takes.
5 minutes, maybe once a week. Gawd...how tough is that? What a whiner.
I have seen so many ICE being towed.
Because there are so many gasoline cars out there.

People tend to not take care of their car.
It must be a new sport since ICEs are fixed roadside.
Depends on the fix.
Only EVs need towing except for some reason they cannot be towed.
You cannot tow an EV. You have to use a flatbed truck. Running out of charge means the EV will have to be loaded into a flatbed truck and carried to a charging station. Running out fuel means walking a few blocks with a gas can. No tow necessary.
There will be ICE around for all your lifetimes.
Not where they are banned by governments, such as in the EU, the SDTC, and the SOTNY.
You will be driving belching autos.
I'll still be driving. When the power goes out in the SDTC because you idiots are dismantling your power grid while mandating EVs, you won't be driving.
Quit crying.
You think it's funny, do you? Making other people pay for YOUR car? Mandating cars that people don't want?

:fu:

Taking this to a absurdity to make a point:

If 10 people bought EV's last year, and 1000 people bought EV's this year, would that make them "popular?" Would that be some sort of actually meaningful record? I don't think so. That's essentially where the US EV market is. A tiny fraction of the cars and trucks sold in the US are EV. A tiny segment of the population buys them.

Key Insights:
Over 2 million electric vehicles have been sold in the United States.

But electric cars still make up just 1% of cars on our roads.

46% of Americans remain unlikely to consider an electric car for their next vehicle.

But the market for electric vehicles still doubled in 2021.

Tesla’s market share for electric vehicles is 66.3%

On average, an electric vehicle costs $10,108 more than a standard vehicle.

But running an EV for 200,000 miles could save you $4,380 compared to a gasoline-powered car.

https://sensiblemotive.com/electric...are for electric vehicles is 66.3% More items

I highlighted that one because it shows, even with government pushing them down people's throats a majority of Americans don't want the damn things. The one below it is meaningless. Two times nothing is still nothing. Outside of Tesla there are no major EV producers because the rest either recognize that with a new administration everything could change and the EV market could collapse, or they simply don't have the market for their products to thrive in.

So? No, you do not have to pull the engine to change the oil.

From what I've heard, seals often leak and need replaced. You must pull the engine to fix that. Ferrari sometimes use a dry sump and there are many places you need to drain to change oil. Simple maintenance can run $2000, and a complete going over can run upwards of $20,000.

Hey! I drive a golf cart for work :whoa:

(I also drive a Shelby Cobra :))

Nope. Seals are improved a lot in the many years the EV has been stuck in the 80s. Most will last for the life of the car now.
You must pull the engine to fix that.
You do not need to pull an engine to replace seals.

What is your infatuation with Ferrari? You do not need to drain the dry sump. Do your own maintenance.

I maintain and repair all my cars. No, I don't have a Ferrari.

You cannot do your own repair on an EV. EV repairs are dealer only.
