I remember years ago agreeing to help someone repair the water pump on a Ferrari. Unbolt the AC compressor and move it out of the way, then the alternator, then the power steering pump, then remove the valve covers, then pull the pump out, after which you have to grind and collapse the rear bearing in this tunnel-like housing because you can't pull it with any kind of bearing puller...
At least it's easier on a Subaru. You pull the serpentine belt, undo the nuts holding the pump on and the lower radiator hose, and replace it. Done. Same on a Ford F-150 5.4 3v, but you don't have to pull any radiator hoses. You do have to remove the fan though.
