You need to learn something about the 1st Amendment and its interpretation as interpreted by the courts.

Federal regulation of lobbying only applies to employees hired to directly influence legislation. Anybody else is free to contact government officials to discuss political issues.

Any congressional office is busy with constituents waiting to see their elected representative for White House or Capitol tours, problems with government bureaucracy, and expressing their opinions about pending legislation.

The old "lobbyists bribe members" cliche is the Marxist "evil capitalism" view. Money is given to members who support their cause, not to bribe them to vote a certain way based on years of research and study as opposed to public cynicism.

Let me guess--you've never voted for the person who spent the most money on his campaign, but all those other uninformed idiots let money influence their votes.

I have yet to find anybody who admits money influenced their vote but they care convinced other people did.

There are many self-financed candidates who spent millions (some over $100 million) who came in third. That is because money cannot buy the support of voters who don't like that candidate.

It is impossible to carry on an intelligent debate with somebody who doesn't know the difference between lobbying and campaign contributions and doesn't know the 1st Amendment protects lobbying.

our campaign finance laws are pathetic.
Looks for 10's of millions from out of state entities swarming in on Senator and even Congressional races


The laws are designed to protect free speech - which is always one my of priorities being a civil libertarian.

But it's to the point elections are bought and sold by false advertising
( making opponents look like they have opposite positions to what they have) by out of state Big Money.

Maybe Biden's Ministry of Truth could actually be useful and shine some light on that- ha ha, not happening

They didn't spend their own money; except the self-financed candidates who are people already very rich and seek some other source of amusement, power.....That includes about 50% of the House and most of the Senate.

Presidential candidates who take federal funding spent our money (but not many take that funding any more).

I'm thinking the founding fathers would roll over in their graves,if they saw the money mad pirates controlling the America they invented!

Don't make your voting decision based on campaign advertising or left- or right- wing sources.

It is too easy to find ways around government regulations on money. One problem is that campaign finance laws seek to prevent non-existing problems.

The Founders engaged in some pretty dirty campaigning themselves. People like Jefferson hired journalists to place stories in the papers favorable to them or unfavorable to opponents.
