He shouldn't write it here, but I do the same thing in real life. Many of the anti-Obama people I know are nakedly racist using that word to describe him all the time. I personally use the word when referring to him, in the way that Sean Penn recently did. FTR I do the same thing with the c word and bitch and whore, when I am describing con policy on women. I would never write that stuff here because I understand how i can be misunderstood, often willfully. But I understand where Mott is coming from with that.

Yes, a constantly changing 1% means that it is not some super duper elite status that no one can break into or fall out of. Most people have to work hard to get there or have some talent (music, athlete, actor) that gets them there. As many have proven over time, it is just as easy to fall out of the 1% if you are bad with money, stop working hard, no longer innovative, etc...

Without question. People have a right to protest in an ORDERLY manner. They do NOT have the right to block others. Now, if they got a permit to shut down a lane of a street or the entire street, that is a different matter. Because then the public would know in advance that said street(s) were shut off or partially shut off. (we see that with organized marches all the time)

Doing so in an unorderly manner can put people in danger. Which is why it is not supposed to be allowed.

Rich people lose it all too you moron. The Department of Treasury did a study showing 57% of the top 1% in 1996 were no longer in the top 1% in 2005. That is how many moved out. Some may have dropped just to the 1.1%, but many went bankrupt as well.

2) I manage money for many who ARE in the top 1% and I can tell you, they are not worried about events like the one depicted in this thread. Many of them actually share the sentiments against Wall Street. Many of them actually want some of the same changes that the OWS are proposing. So no... they are not 'scared' by the idiocy displayed by these protesters and those that behave like them.

The majority of teaparty activists are racists. That's my opinion, based on the ones I know, the demonstrations I've observed, and the signs I've seen.

I do love slowing down and yelling out "Get a job you smelly bum" at them though. I do it every time I see them. I know it really burns them. Because of course they're "real Americans" (white), and only lefties are smelly, out of work, bums when they protest. Well, they are not more openly racist than Southerners, and in fact, my aunt, uncle, and four cousins who are all teabaggers and openly racist, live in North Carolina.

However, Long Island was long the most segregated suburb in the nation, so we certainly are not without institutional racism, historically. I do not know how either NY or the South compare to the west, but between NY and southern states, southern states are definitely more openly racist. Very few white people are without any racism though. We're all raised in the same racist and sexist culture.

I used to have a friend who grew up in Hawaii and I got the strong impression from him that he was raised with little to no racist thinking. And he was white.
