So you're not an expert, but you have a "scientific" background. Give me a fucking break, Tom. That's a vague response that in no way validates your opinion on this particular subject. And since your brother works at Shell, that could imply industry bias...I've no idea what capacity he works as, so again, another vague attempt to support your opinion.
Again, the "opinion" of your brother and you does NOT CHANGE THE FACT that WE WILL NEVER KNOW IF THE DEVICE WOULD HAVE WORKED BECAUSE BP CHEAPED OUT NOT TO INSTALL IT. BP gambled on the primary systems taking care of business....THEY FAILED AND HAD NO BACK-UP SYSTEM TO TRY! Hence the disaster we are now facing.
A matter of fact, a matter of history, and all your wishful thinking won't change it. Deal with it.
What you seem to fail to understand is that there was no backup blow-out preventer, so having yet another way of activating a failed device was not going to make any difference. The BOP had already partially closed and further attempts to close it directly with an ROV were also unsuccessful, so an acoustic switch is not going to do anything. This is basic logic which you seem to have great difficulty comprehending. If you had a light switch in your house that was activated by clapping your hands, it is hardly going to work if the light bulb has blown.
