I am making observations, not value judgments.

The independent evangelical churches are outperforming the old Mainline Protestant and Catholic communities in the USA, and the observant person might ask the question why?

This evangelical church was like attending a Christian rock concert. They don't fuck around with old fashioned hymns. They were playing modern, contemporary Christian music with electric guitars, keyboards, drums, electric bass.

That would never pass muster in a Episcopalian or Lutheran church!

I was never a fan of strict biblical literalism.

I'm sure 200 years from now, people will pass judgement on us. People who eat meat today might someday be considered unethical barbarians, because the livestock industry is predicated on the cruel confinement, suffering, and terrifying slaughter of sentient mammals.

I think the bad news for Democrats is that if a vocal minority in the party creates the narrative, our party is going to continue to lose in the Midwestern and Appalachian states for a generation to come.

It doesn't matter how good of a healthcare and minimum wage policy you have, if a vocal minority allows right-wing propagandists to paint the party as virulently anti-christian, and that we only care about atheists, undocumented migrants, and transgender NCAA athletes. That is just never going to fly in the economically populist but socially conservative Midwest and Appalachian states. You can't win elections with just atheists.

It wasn't that long ago that Democrats were very competitive across much of the Midwest and Appalachia.

I read once that tradition is peer pressure from dead people.

Tradition is fine, I guess, but at some point attitudes and practices need to be re-evaluated.

I think it was Jefferson who thought the entire Constitution should be reworked every 20 years or so. He said the earth belongs to the living, not the dead.

Life is choices. We can choose to be ethical or not. You've made it clear that you don't care about ethics or morals, only what is good for you. It's a pretty common attitude among atheists like you and Perry Penis-Puller.

Some of the New Atheists belatedly became a little alarmed at the demise of Christianity in Western Europe. Richard Dawkins said he is basically a cultural Christian, and appreciates living in a society where the Christian ethos, Christian zeitgeist, and Christian traditions are upheld.

I think he probably started worrying and realizing that as he and Hitchens were seeking to destroy Christianity, Islam, anarchism, moral relativism, and other ideologies were moving into the void to replace it among young adults. Atheism doesn't have a universal ethos or system of thought to sell itself, and Hitchens admits that is a problem, because many people still want to find some universal truth and objectively true value system to aspire towards.
