I get what you're saying, and agree w/ your basic point - but it's not appropriate to this story.
Trump has created his own category. He made fun of a guy who got attacked w/ a hammer; he made fun of a disabled guy; he insulted Prisoners of War. The list goes on. These aren't "normal" politician things.
The point of this thread is that Trump supporters - many of whom previously claimed a bit of moral superiority over the left, and for whom morality and principled behavior was a high priority - have compromised all of that. All of it. Just to support this guy.
I understand, you don’t want people (on the right) to support Trump. Hey, I don’t either.
But if someone on the left is going to try and take the moral high ground to convince those on the right not to support Trump then you need to be able to walk the walk. Otherwise people will just roll their eyes.
It’s really hard to be a political partisan and not a big hypocrite. This why statements like yours (no matter who says them) are met with heavy doses of skepticism.
