The last politician I really liked was Obama

I get what you're saying, and agree w/ your basic point - but it's not appropriate to this story.

Trump has created his own category. He made fun of a guy who got attacked w/ a hammer; he made fun of a disabled guy; he insulted Prisoners of War. The list goes on. These aren't "normal" politician things.

The point of this thread is that Trump supporters - many of whom previously claimed a bit of moral superiority over the left, and for whom morality and principled behavior was a high priority - have compromised all of that. All of it. Just to support this guy.

I understand, you don’t want people (on the right) to support Trump. Hey, I don’t either.

But if someone on the left is going to try and take the moral high ground to convince those on the right not to support Trump then you need to be able to walk the walk. Otherwise people will just roll their eyes.

It’s really hard to be a political partisan and not a big hypocrite. This why statements like yours (no matter who says them) are met with heavy doses of skepticism.

Well, like I said in the OP - I wouldn't support a politician if he crossed certain lines.

But I'm more independent. I know people here crack up when I say that, but the Dems just aren't "my party." I didn't support or defend Clinton after all of the Monica stuff and other allegations game out against him, even though he got my vote for President. I don't support Biden at this point (never really did, and didn't vote for him).

We all need to set the bar higher. When we support a politician, it's a reflection on who we are - especially if we support them fervently. Principles should matter.

Trump is the personification of excrement. The "deals" that conservatives have had to make w/ their own values to support him are compromises I would never make w/ my own.
