The entire American slavery history is now erased because "Blacks had slaves too" and "Blacks sold their fellow countrymen into slavery." When they're really desperate, they also point out that some indigenous Americans also had slaves.

The impression that I got from this history is not that we should hate our country. It was that we should learn that sometimes people do terrible things, so let's not repeat history.

Florida and the other states who want to whitewash our history are doing so not to raise patriotic little citizens. They are not doing it to "unite" us, either. They're doing it because of their terror that their white privilege and hegemony is going the way of the passenger pigeon.
